^I hope I still have pipes & chops in another 30 to 40 years, holy crap the guy’s still got it all goin on!
I actually hardly know about that guy, I was originally going for the Monkees clip of the same “I Go Ape” song, but YouTube brought me to Neil, and I just went with it.
In other news,
^Neil does one of those Time Life commercials for “Rocking the 60’s” or whatever they call them which are always an excellent watch if you’re bored if only to catch all the great old clips. Loads of unintentional comedy from Neil but he still sounds good.
Funniest part about this, I’m currently taking a graduate course on Drugs and Behavior and the list for “Gateway Drugs” is as follows:
1.) Alcohol/Wine
2.) Hard Liquor/Cigarettes
3.) Marijuana
Statistically speaking, only 1% of the population actually starts their drug “use” with marijuana. I use the word use because of all the users on illicit drugs, only 9% are actually dependent on a particular substance. People are so incredibly in the dark when it comes to the “war on drugs” and the effects it has on society. I would venture to say that the attempt to demonize drugs is far worse than the use of the drugs themselves. But what do I know, I’m sure Mitt has his “expert” sources
^LOL, well the guy has proven himself to be dumber and dumber by the day.

A guy who was born with a silver-spoon in his mouth (his words), believes he is the victim of an over-taxing, over-regulating government and shirks his responsibility to pay his dues to this country by housing his money in off-shore accounts is complaining about entitlement and victimization?
I wonder if he saw the irony in the fact that these comments were made in an attempt to secure free handouts from rich donors… ![]()
In any case, I agree with this:

The thing with Romney is I think he really doesn’t get it. Like he’s been raised in his world for so long that he’s legitimately confused or shocked when people laugh at his blue-blood comments. Even little stuff like mentioning owning horses or being friends with billionaires just gets normal folks rolling their eyes. He’s just socially inept.
^Yeah, that is certainly a lot of his problem. A lot of people forget that the president is the face of the nation. Beyond being a policy-setter and the commander in chief, he is very much a public spokesman. That’s why the president’s personality and ability to make people like them matters.
And, in other political news, my governor Jerry Brown is kicking ass.

I’m not even sure I understand the term “gateway drug”…I’ve always assumed it meant that you wouldn’t have done the drugs you did after the first one you tried, without having tried that first one…is this the idea? If this is the case alcohol is easily the biggest gateway drug, but the real gateway drug is curiosity…how will we end this horrible curiosity epidemic
oh wait, don’t parents encourage their children to be curious? ![]()
I always assumed it was this concept that you always want to get higher. Like a cigarette is a very short, very lame high so folks try that and get tired of it and move onto something else. Then they find weed and that’s a good high but that’s not enough and they need a bigger high…so they move to cocaine, etc etc. It’s an awful theory in general and probably only applies to a very small percentage of users and really doesn’t take into account how different drugs are different “types” of highs and how some will like one high over another.
They probably just point out that many coke users likely say they used weed first before using coke so they determine that weed “leads” to cocaine…when it’s actually just more of a case that weed is easier to get than coke so anybody getting into any drugs likely started with the one that was easiest to get and is the most prevalent. But they never bring this up since it hurts their anti-drug argument.
Weed is a gateway to Mountain Dew and Cheetos.
^and overloaded pizzas.
^^there is probably some truth to the gateway drug thing but its hard to pick the gateway winner. The culprit to trying harder drugs probably has more to do with bad friends than anything else. I never had cocaine walk up to me and say “try me” but I had friends do that… or er try the cocaine not the friend… wait there were friends with boobs and cocaine and… I’m stopping this sentence now.
^Same thing here…well, not with boobs but the cocaine thing. Tried it, knew it wasn’t for me and didn’t look back. I don’t see how the “gateway” thing worked. And like folks say, cigarettes and alcohol are the ultimate gateway drugs.
And now for something completely different:

Marijuana And Cancer: Scientists Find Cannabis Compound Stops Metastasis In Aggressive Cancers
Posted: 09/19/2012 5:07 pm EDT Updated: 09/21/2012 1:15 pm EDT
A pair of scientists at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco has found that a compound derived from marijuana could stop metastasis in many kinds of aggressive cancer, potentially altering the fatality of the disease forever.
“It took us about 20 years of research to figure this out, but we are very excited,” said Pierre Desprez, one of the scientists behind the discovery, to The Huffington Post. “We want to get started with trials as soon as possible.”
The Daily Beast first reported on the finding, which has already undergone both laboratory and animal testing, and is awaiting permission for clinical trials in humans.
Desprez, a molecular biologist, spent decades studying ID-1, the gene that causes cancer to spread. Meanwhile, fellow researcher Sean McAllister was studying the effects of Cannabidiol, or CBD, a non-toxic, non-psychoactive chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Finally, the pair collaborated, combining CBD and cells containing high levels of ID-1 in a petri dish.
“What we found was that his Cannabidiol could essentially ‘turn off’ the ID-1,” Desprez told HuffPost. The cells stopped spreading and returned to normal.
“We likely would not have found this on our own,” he added. “That’s why collaboration is so essential to scientific discovery.”
Desprez and McAllister first published a paper about the finding in 2007. Since then, their team has found that CBD works both in the lab and in animals. And now, they’ve found even more good news.
“We started by researching breast cancer,” said Desprez. “But now we’ve found that Cannabidiol works with many kinds of aggressive cancers–brain, prostate–any kind in which these high levels of ID-1 are present.”
Desprez hopes that clinical trials will begin immediately.
“We’ve found no toxicity in the animals we’ve tested, and Cannabidiol is already used in humans for a variety of other ailments,” he said. Indeed, the compound is used to relieve anxiety and nausea, and, since it is non-psychoactive, does not cause the “high” associated with THC.
While marijuana advocates will surely praise the discovery, Desprez explained that it’s not so easy as just lighting up.
“We used injections in the animal testing and are also testing pills,” he said. “But you could never get enough Cannabidiol for it to be effective just from smoking.”
Furthermore, the team has started synthesizing the compound in the lab instead of using the plant in an effort to make it more potent.
“It’s a common practice,” explained Desprez. “But hopefully it will also keep us clear of any obstacles while seeking approval.”
^This is pretty amazing stuff. There has been so much overwhelming evidence to this fact… amazing to see it moving forward like that.
Now, in other shocking news… something kind of civil and perhaps even slightly human just happened on reddit…

“Gateway” in a sense is basically saying that trying this drug will lead to a higher probability of trying other “stronger” drugs. So yeah your right, but the problem with the whole idea is that the so called experts try to scare people into believing that meth and cocaine are so addictive that if you try it once your hooked for life. Even though research shows its actually not correlated at all. The vast majority of people who have ever used the most addictive drugs aren’t dependent on them.
