OhKeeReader - News that doesn't deserve its own thread.

I’m living proof this isn’t true. People always like to lump people into groups and never account that some people can handle it and some can’t. Just like some just plain eat too much, some folks do drugs too much and others do it in moderation.

And yeah…I’ve never heard of Reddit…seems like something to avoid.

Yeah. What is reddit anyway? A website? I hear the word quite a bit.

Van Halen to perform SB halftime?

^That rumor’s been flying for a few months now. I’ll bet the NFL wants to schedule it but the band is so volatile, they’re scared to lock them in and then have Eddie decide that he hates DLR again and break up and ruin it.

Van Halen

^^Haha. Thirded.

Seems that the right really doesn’t have the market cornered on ‘rednecks’. The term is easily applicable to the left. It just doesn’t seem to be pointed out as often. I wonder why not.

Philadelphia student says teacher mocked her for wearing Romney shirt
By Jonathan Lai and Kristen A. Graham, Philadelphia Inquirer Staff Writers

A uniform-free “dress-down” day at Charles Carroll High School in Port Richmond turned into a public dressing down for a student who chose to wear a pink T-shirt supporting Mitt Romney for president.

Samantha Pawlucy, a sophomore at Carroll, said her geometry teacher publicly humiliated her Friday by asking why she was wearing a Romney/Ryan T-shirt and going into the hallway to urge other teachers and students to mock her.

“I was really embarrassed and shocked. I didn’t think she’d go in the hallway and scream to everyone,” Pawlucy said. “It wasn’t scary, but it felt weird.”

Pawlucy said she decided to wear the shirt after researching the candidate and President Obama and concluding that she was a Romney supporter. Her father, Richard, said she was especially interested in Romney’s opposition to late-term abortion.

He said he recently registered to vote as an independent but was not involved in the Romney campaign.

Samantha Pawlucy said that after going into the hall, her teacher called into the classroom a nonteaching assistant who tried to write on the T-shirt with a marker. She allegedly told the teen to remove her shirt and said she would be given another.

Pawlucy said her teacher told her that Carroll was a “Democratic school” and that wearing a Republican shirt was akin to the teacher, who is black, wearing a KKK shirt.

The teacher could not be reached for comment. Fernando Gallard, spokesman for the School District of Philadelphia, said an investigation was ongoing. He said the student had the right to wear the T-shirt.

If she went out in the hall and started screaming about a young girl wearing a fucking t shirt, she should prob lose her job first, then take a trip to a shrink…I haven’t seen a whole lot of Romney garb around, even here in the south, but I would bet the public schools are littered with em down here

What a bitch

WTF kind of liberal school makes kids wear uniforms in the first place? I agree that teacher should be fired and also sued.

I went to a school that made me wear a uniform for 2 years-- it fucking sucked. It was a “republican” school, though. I didn’t think progressive people did that stuff.

I went to a school where the higher ups (very small part) were prob conservative but every teacher was as liberal as they come…just because someone’s liberal doesn’t mean it’s safe assume they don’t believe in looking sharp, although I never really asked them what they thought about our strict uniform, I’d bet they’d agree with it for the safety of the students self esteem or lack thereof…some of seemed to be on a real power trip about though, that’s for sure

Not sure if my ripped tie-dyes and baggy corduroys were “trendy” but I definitely preferred them over that itchy, scratchy, dorky looking uniform that stripped me of all identity.

^Oh Glenn… if I said the sky was blue, you would insist it was green and if I told you I was against murder, you would probably start killing people.

I love you, man. (please don’t go on a rant against love-- it’s just a figure of speech.) :stuck_out_tongue:

But dooj, don’t you kind of wear a uniform at work?

I did and I didn’t like wearing a school uniform for eight years. It was certainly easier when it came to getting dressed. But it made me feel like one of the masses, and I’ve always been uncomfortable with that realization.

Nah, they don’t tell me what to wear. I usually like to wear a black t-shirt and cargo pants but that’s just cause it’s comfy and I look good in it. I wore my green steal-your-face t-shirt when we worked Red Rocks (video later this month!).

I could show up in a clown suit, if I wanted to. Hey… maybe I will!

Eh, I see both sides. I agree the whole “my clothes/hair is my identity” thing is kind of stupid but we forget these are kids. Things like their identity and their clothes and fitting in are among the most important things in their world. Taking that away and it’s pretty crushing to some of them. I know we can all say “Eh, get over it. In 10 years, you’ll look back and laugh that you got so pissed at something so stupid.” But they can’t do that…their brains don’t work that way.

I find it more annoying that schools think that unique clothing is actually harmful enough to want to get rid of it. I mean…the people in charge are adults…they don’t realize that a dumb shirt or jeans means nothing and doesn’t harm anyone?..they’re the ones who should be mature enough to realize this. Obviously you can make rules to ban chicks from dressing like skanks and such since it’s a distraction and all that but that’s about all that’s necessary.

I got the business casual at my job…no problem with me. I’m just glad I don’t have to wear a tie.

Uniforms are great is schools…especially ones with low income students. If I have to explain why…you just don’t get it.

poor kid… actually uses her brain, does some research, makes a choice and some nutty liberal attacks her.

I wear a uniform at work… scrubs… make no mistake its a uniform and when I put it on I go from being ordinary lame 40 y/o to Nurse in 2.2 seconds. I am treated differently, my responsibilities are much greater and all my actions and consequences are accounted for. In the past year I’ve learned to take my job very seriously… people depend on us… very sick people, in pain, suffering greatly… its a far cry from the old days of being a squeaky drunk stoned kid at a phish show. wtf i never thought i’d grow up…
