My boss is in Ireland for a conference. So today I’m wearing sweatpants to work. Because I fucking can

good observation… I’m in something baggy all the time… ultra baggy like you say… and feel uncomfortable in fitted clothes. I actually get tired of such baggy clothes but every time I buy new clothes I always get them a size too large! … like subconsciously… I have to mindfully buy clothes that fit…And when I do I end up rarely wearing them…
I say appropriate. Very appropriate.

*inappropriately appropriate ![]()
You did it again!

Oh, btw… I’m in Argentina right now. I apologized to them for the fact that us westerners stole the falklands.

Oh and now that I’ve actually read this thread I would like to weigh in on the uniform thing. I thought about more of the clothing identity thing, and I remembered, back in my school days I didn’t have lots of things I loved to wear, I had random stuff that was bought for me, but I didn’t have a ton of choice. And then my mom would take us to thrift store and we could get whatever we wanted that fit us or looked good on us.
I’m with Glenn on how its nice not to have to worry about what to wear in the morning.
And I worked at a school with a dress code in Brooklyn and it makes total sense. you should see what they would wear otherwise.
Also, im starting to find my style as, gosh i dont want to say this word, but an adult. I could live in t shirts and jeans and going casual. But I found when I put more effort into my appearance and dress up I am taken more seriously and I feel more confident about myself too. But I’m always still a little nervous to still go out with the a new look, since im used to just laying low really casually.
I guess it was easier going to a school full of hippies that all dressed like homeless people. Not a whole lot of trendiness to worry about.
And I still dress the same. ![]()
Oh, and I was kidding about the falklands. Although they are much easier to get to from here than they were from London!
I dressed like an idiot as a teenager. Seriously. Would’ve been much better off with a bit of discipline.
I’ll say that although I did get somewhat used to wearing such a strict uniform (shirt and tie on mondays, specific type of itchy and scratchy khaki pants, and specific collared shirt with school name on it with three colors to choose from) the “not having to worry about what to wear” thing seems to be kind of a lame excuse…I understand it certainly protected some kids from being talked about behind their backs and shit like that, but ya know we all went to college from my HS and there isn’t any dress code there…the way you WANT to dress is a way to portray yourself and give others a free shot at judging you, and IMO it usually works out for those who are sort of trying to put out a certain image…
I haven’t met too many people that didn’t fit their own image once I got to know them…I have certainly been surprised by people who are dressed in a uniform at work, or in a plain unassuming style (not trying to put out a particular image)…but seldom have I talked to Johnny with his cowboy boots, dip can, and lifted truck and had much to talk about, not putting those people down- I had a lot of friends like that in HS, but we don’t exactly see eye to eye and I’m glad I don’t have to guess what people are all about as much anymore and be surprised by their semi-serious racism and bullshit…but don’t get me wrong I’ve been surprised by some of my best friends’ ignorance the past year, it’s frustrating
it’s stupid to say we shouldn’t attach a lot of stock of who we are in our appearance too…especially if you are trying to meet new people…I had a pretty good idea what kind of attitudes my best friends I’ve met over the past couple years had before I got to know them, and it had nothing to do with dressing like a hippie cause I’m sure that’s the assumption…none of my best friends dress like hippies or are hippies in the traditional sense, my good friends are just open minded people and listeners
feels a lot like Type Your Thoughts…oh well, fuggit /tangent
^I actually prefer no clothes at all. Seriously. Why are we so scared of nipples and penises? Nothing would exemplify the philosophy you describe better than just telling kids to show up naked and not worry about the frickin clothes at all. Right?
I mean, they weren’t born with clothes on, ya know?
And, for the record, you look extremely uncomfortable in that pic. ![]()
^Haha, all good, I honestly do not judge those who enjoy dressing well. I say all the power to ya! I’ve just never found myself comfortable in that stuff.
Oh, and I’m with you on the winter clothes… but don’t tell me you wouldn’t feel warm and comfy with a big hunk of buffalo hyde wrapped around your naked body.
Yeah… we really need to find some news that doesn’t deserve it’s own thread!
Ok… this oughta do it…

I agree with all of this. My dad (a wise man, by the way) said that at some point. When I first moved to Asheville, I was going on about how people there don’t care as much about image and all that. Looking back, I was probably saying that mostly because they have a lot of baggy tie-dye, corduroy wearing dready guys and gals up there, and they work in various jobs, not just service industry stuff. He countered with, “Well, every group has its own standard of conformity.” I didn’t have a response to that shit because it was dead on accurate. Try showing up to the Greenlife grocery in Asheville in a Mercedes with a suit on and see what kind of looks you get.
I also enjoy getting dressed up from time to time.
That’s from this past spring, before going to the symphony with my dad, which, other than Phish shows, is one of my very favorite things to do. I don’t know, something about putting on a suit, I like it. For one thing, I find those pants quite comfortable, and for another, I just like the clothes. Only from time to time, though.
Oh jeez, you think kids get teased in school now. Wait until those poor kids get to school and the guys get teased about their dicks and the girls get teased about their boobs. Talk about a bunch of upset kids. Fuuuuck that.
The only problem with a uniform or dress code is then of course you have the kids who are constantly pushing the limits of what they can get away with.
^That was me. I actually got my ear pierced…
But, hey, I did well with the ladies! ![]()
(and I will admit the skirts were kind of hot. especially when they rolled up the top to make them shorter at the risk of getting detention… man I loved those girls.)
I honestly believe the 2 years at that Republican-ish uniform school was what solidified my life-long membership to the liberal club.
And, for the triple post… I just want to say for the record that I still totally got picked on by the 8th graders even though we had uniforms. They liked to flick my big ears. Guess the school should have required everyone to wear ear-muffs so I wouldn’t have to endure that!

Actually, there was more bullying going on at that school than any of the other ones I attended. Mainly because of the whole sports/fratty culture that existed there.
Lookin sharp you guys!
