One of the most diverse Live years ever.

As was reported earlier Phish’s shows this year have already included more distinct songs (208) than any year other than 1998 (240), which had two albums covered (Loaded and Dark Side of the Moon) plus the “Jukebox Summer Tour”.

this was written before this fall tour. So adding all of the debuts and first time played of phish 3.0 we now have a total for Miami of 225 different songs.

It’s especially impressive due to the lack of cover songs.

Just to play devil’s advocate, I’ll say they still cover a ton of songs.

I think it’s awesome they are playing some of the Exile stuff sporadically…especially for those that missed Festival 8.

Yeah, I missed 8 and I am a huge Stones fan. Shine A Light at MSG 3 was a huge phish moment for me. I gotta say I only saw 6 shows this whole year and I feel like I heard a lot of covers. Imagine a major sports franchise fading away for a few years. They dont just come back and win a championship when they feel like it. Man, next year is gonna kick so much god damn ass. If only that were starting tomorrow

Very well said! I believe this is exactly where Phish is at. They’ve been getting better and better and soon they will be the champs again.

Hmm…I noticed they didn’t play any at Indio (outside the Ween set) and then none at the first two shows of the Fall tour so I thought it could be a trend. But crunching the numbers on the remaining shows, they’re playing plenty. I’ll just slink back into my hole in the ground, now. Stevo’s a Douche.

Thanks for reporting this. I am very impressed! Way to go PHISH!

When the Circus Comes was played on Halloween.

::continues being an asshole::

Steve O has never seen Phish.

Apparently I’ve never seen them play a cover song…

According to ZZYZX’s Phish Stats, 2009 so far has had 229 songs played. 1992 had 240. Phish just needs to break out twelve more songs (or three songs every night in Miami) and beat that record.

It’s not like they don’t have a bunch of songs they’re sitting on; there’s a lot of Round Room stuff that hasn’t returned to rotation, theres a bunch of Party Time songs we know they’re able to play, and that’s on top of the usual New Years’-only cover we’ll probably get. On top of that there’s the various bits of TAB or Mike Gordon material that hasn’t found a home yet (Greyhound Rising, Spiral, etc).

^Not to mention Tela!

I would never have guessed this was the case, especially considering the short fall tour. Very interesting.

there did seem to be a lot of about time they played that or bust outs though in the fall tour.

Props to the boys.

You know it’s a diverse year when you get a Paul and Silas, Ginseng Sullivan, Torn and Frayed, and an Albuquerque in the same year! I never would have expected to see any of those songs. And three of them were in the same set!

not paul and silas that was at chicago

I know, it was Ginseng, Torn and Frayed, and Albuquerque that were in the same set. At Cincy 2.
