original phish tunes that evoke emotional response?

Seriously you should try Billy Breathes. I tried to get my wife into Phish for about a year then gave up. Then one day I was listening to Billy Breathes in the car on a road trip and she said ‘I actually like this album, these are good songs’. She still doesn’t like Phish though and I don’t think I’ll ever get her to a show…Phish3D was probably as close as I will get with that one!

Farmhouse 12-28-98 really got me… (don’t tell anyone!)

for an album on the whole, I think Billy Breathes has some pretty cool lyrics and relate-able…most have already been said but Brian and Robert and Talk are a couple of my faves, both are great from the acoustic set last year obviously

Secret Smile!

So, did you have any luck?

no, haven’t had a chance to get any of these to her yet. plus i don’t actually own billy breathes… i’ll get to her eventually, and if i can get some tix to 3rd night berkeley i will be making her go to the show with me

Brian and Robert, Frankie Says, Wading in the Velvet Sea, and Joy maybe?

Antelope makes me feel giddy, and butterfly in the stomache style all the time.

Although, that is musically.

I remember when I heard my Grandpa died…he had alzheimers and was kind of “gone” by that point as it was so it wasn’t a suddenly shock but it’s always a bit depressing when you hear when it finally ends. Anyway, I was heading out when I heard the news and jumped into the car and I had a CD in the car that was just starting to play “Dirt.” It’s a gorgeous song as it is but it really hit me listening to it as I was driving. I’ll always think of that and my grandpa when I hear “Dirt” now.

Splinters of Hail (wish they would break it out)

most of the ones i was thinking were already mentioned…

roggae?
army of one?
two versions of me?
walls of the cave?

not tenderness, eh? maybe…

farmhouse?
free?
kill devil falls?
heavy things?

Before the Hampton 2009 reunion I could not listen to Velvet Sea without thinking about the Velvet Sea at Coventry and how heart wrenching it was…but now that they’re back…it doesn’t evoke the same response

AGREED!

That’s weird. I always think of my grandpa passing away when I hear “Dirt” too.

BTW, from a pure musical standpoint, Bug is similar to Oh Sweet Nuthin. But, as far as a similar emotional response, I still think Waste is pretty close.

“Bug” always strikes me as overly vapid, not emotional at all. Most of the songs on Farmhouse - with the exception of Dirt and Josie Wales - feel that way to me.

Are jams fair game for this? Cuz that 11/24/09 Reba from Philly 2… listen to Trey’s guitar at the end. Holy fuck! SO much feeling going into that :open_mouth:

I totally agree. I was just saying from the perspective of musical structure, the verses are very similar, as are the repetition style choruses. I just figured I’d throw that out there. Waste is still the one I’d go with, if she is an “Oh Sweet Nuthin” fan.
