Pack your shit kiddies...We're going to Bonnaroo!!

just kidding on the Wakarusa, my brother is graduating that weekend. damn.

aint nothin wrong with high-fivin…

“Strangers stoppin strangers just to high-five their hands.”

me and this kid did that at the keller show!

If I could practically afford to drop that much money, I would so love to go to Bonnaroo. Specially now that it’s a pretty cool mix of all kinds of music, not necessarily just jam bands.

I’m telling you…we’re goin!! We’ll all set up one huge OKp campsite and chill with nothing but cool people all weekend!!! Everyone will wonder who all of these "Oh Kee Pa pEople’ are… and we’ll just laugh and keep on truckin…

I’m in VA and It’s 10 hour drive… but I have been many people drive from, Washington, CA, CO, IL, Etc… I’e even seen an Alaska tag!

now THAT’s a long drive. I mean if all else fails… I’ve got some frequent flyer miles I’m willing to give to the cause, plus one of my best buds works for Air tran. If you have a hub remotely near you, I got the hook up on a cheap flight.

Thats what I’m talking about! I went to the first three Bonnaroo’s… Was sick of them at the third one… It was more about drugs than music, bad vibes…

Wakarusa is like 1/3 the price, it is more centrally located to everyone (Kansas, middle of the US), and has a GREAT small local vibe. But it is still a big show, last year was 2 nights of Cheese, Mule, Galactic, Railroad Earth…

So far announced for this summer is Bela Fleck and the Flecktones headlining the last night, Brothers Past, and a couple others I never heard of.

I shall attend Waka… but no 'roo…

sweet

Hey guys - just thought I’d throw some thoughts around so you all know what you are in for if you go:

So, you won;t be able just set up a tent and expect OKP people to find it. There are 100,000 people at Bonnaroo and at least 30 or 40 different camps with thousands of cars and tents each. Your best bet is to set up a meeting beforehand perhaps in front of a music tent (where an artist we all know is playing) or, at the very least, set up a massive balloon in the
sky, (like that purple octopus that is there every year).

There are two ways to get into the festival - through the front (Interstate) or through the back (Highway 30 or some other number). I’ve done both, and I;ll say that if you get there early, as in 5 or 6 hours before the gates open, then you’ll want to go the front way. This way, you should (should) be able to snag a good spot relatively close to the Centeroo (the place where everything is at). The back Highway is hit or miss, as you can’t see the traffic ahead of you due to the winding road, and after 10 hours you might be asking yourself: “why didn;t we just take the interstate?”

Bring galoshes!!! (spelling?) This is one thing I would most highly recommend. It rains every day at Bonnaroo, and the drainage is pretty much nonexistent. I, for one, hate having wet feet. I hate feeling all wet and dirty, so if your’e anything like me, bring rubber boots that will keep your feet dry.

Ummm…Oh yeah - bring comfortable shoes to wear - rather than sandals or something. There is the chance that you will be camped literally miles away from the music, and walking that much in anything but cozy shoes gets really old really fast.

Bring extra food and plenty of money and bring your own water and beer and you should be OK.

I guess that’s all the advice I can give you newbies (if you in fact are a newbie). Just see all the music you can, and sleep and rest afterthe festival. You’ll regret it if you don’t take full advantage of the scene.

Again, I hope everyone who goes has fun.

i think i’d rather be down for teh_waka…

but either way.

plus i dig on the brothers past…i’d love to see them at a totally hetty festie, yo.

Bonarroo is always held at a huge farm in Manchester, Tennessee. I was supposed to go last year, but got in some trouble w/ the parental unit, so that kind of ended things quickly for me. I won’t be able to go this year because I graduate on the 16th of June.

yeah graduation and exams reallu interfere with bonnaroo

lets do them both…i definitely want to go to the roo again and i would like to go to waka waka waka for the first time…

I went the last two years…it is cool, but I’m not going back unless the lineup wows me A LOT. Unless you’re lucky enough to camp close to centeroo, you are fucked. We had to walk at least 1.5 miles to get to shows, it might have been 2. This means you can only leave your site, walk back and chill, and go back to centeroo once in a day… adn that it bullshit. The whole deal is just too big for me. I actually hope the lineup isn’t very good so I’m not tempted to go.

^from my experience…it only took like 10 min to go to and from the centeroo…and i was by the rv’s which i am not sure if that was close or far…unless you are in the last possible camp sites, i think that the walk from almost anywhere is not bad…especially if you are burnin on the way to make the time pass

Our walk last year took over a half hour, maybe more. and we were in the far end of the camps

i’m down with a fratboys vs. the okp any day! i’ll kick ass ecw style. if ya smeeellllllllll what the captain’s cookin’! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Reading through the Bonnaroo pages it says that they will cut back on how many people are allowed in this year. 10,000 less people which will mean the same atmosphere of Bonnaroo 2003. I’ve never been there but im sure 10,000 will make a dent on how far you have to park.

as long as you’re feelin breezy, the roo is ‘teh’ place to be (i have no clue what all this teh business is about)…

i’ve heard great things about waka too and am thinking of going this year (lasst year i thought they’re lineup actually looked better on paper), but i’ve been to all the roos and they’ve all been killer…whether i was camped far or near or slept in my car or went alone or with a big group of friends or a big group of strangers or with a lady…they all blew my mind. putting the ‘scene’ aside, the music is top notch peeps. check it out. i hope to c u there

I’ll be at Wakarusa definately. Will and I are meeting there for sure. But Bonnaroo is right in the middle of my busiest season and I can’t let the store be run by my college students. It would be a disaster when I returned. Waka is right up the road from me though…

Kansas scares me. Seriously. BAD COPS! The people in Kansas are questionable as well.

How about 10,000 Lakes?
Did/Has anyone gone to that. It looked good last year.

10000lakes is 45 minutes from my residence. No hassles with cops/security on the way in AT ALL last year. You could have driven in with anything. But that could obviously change any year.
Besides that issue, I definitely recommend the festival. 2004 went a little too mainstream with 311 and john mayer headlining, but last year panic came back, along with g-love, jazz mandolin, trey, claypool. Very chill, awesome campgrounds.
