Page in Philly

enjoy, im here at work, gonna tune in and listen

I liked it, he played all new stuff, and it was sick. The lead guitarists was off the hook. I generally like the whole band, but thought the bass player was iffy.

I thought that the songs were … good.

Once again we fall trap to the “lead guy” jam.
Page had a lead guitar, drums, bass, and a “floater”.
The “floater” played electric guitar and keyboards.
Every jam was started by Page and throughout, the deeper Page got into it, all you saw were four heads staring at Page for the next musical cue.
I hate that sort of jam.

This is why I hated Trey’s early solo shows. It was the Trey show with studio musicians.
How far TAB has come since that first show I saw and then all the way to this past fall tour and NYE run, which I thought was brilliant.

Back to Page.
The songs started off…meh…and then swelled into some sweet stuff.

I went to the show with a good friend who knows nothing about Phish and he even said that the show was…good.
He said, “It sounded like a cross between Pink Floyd and Randy Newman.”

It made me laugh, but on the trip home I thought about this statement and I think he was spot-on.

It was very fluffy stuff, but I think in time show after show these songs could very well be powerhouses.
Back in the Basement in particular could be a sick jam when the band loosens up.

Complex Wind stood out as a pretty sweet fucking tune.

“This one is called Complex Wind. ooooooooooooooooh.”

I didn’t care for the lead guitar, although the “floater” played lead as well and was a tad better, neither really sounded great.

I agree with the above post as far as the bassist. You could barely hear him and other than that, he didn’t seem to offer much.

The drummer was decent.

Page sounded fucking great. Killer piano.
I always liked to watch Page during Phish shows, and I loved even more when he had the spotlight during a show. I think he is fantastic and am glad he has his moment to shine post Phish…finally.

The songs he played today were,
Heavy Rotation
Back In The Basement
Maid Marion
Runaway Bride
Complex Wind
