Phish’s ‘Chairman of the Boards’
Live on NPR this Friday at Noon ET

"Yet again, NPR’s live concert series gets into “jammy” territory.

This Friday, March 30th, they’ve got former Phish keyboard wizard, Page McConnell, streaming live from the World Cafe on Philly’s WXPN at noon ET. This will be a nice treat to fans who couldn’t grab tickets to his upcoming (sold-out) show at the Gramercy Theatre, in NYC on April 4th.

The “Chairman” is set to release his solo debut on April 17th. It’ll be interesting to see how this album compares to his previous side-project with bassist Oteil Burbridge and drummer Russel Batiste: Vida Blue. I remember Page’s instrumental work with Vida Blue being pretty darn cool, but overall his songwriting tended to lack some sort of depth (perhaps a bit stinted after years of being overshadowed by the behemoth songwriting team of Trey Anastasio and Tom Marshall). We’ll see."

This shit’s awesome. That band is soo damn tight. That last song, Beauty of a Broken heart! You think that’s about Phish breaking up? All those songs are great. Runaway Bride, Complex Wind, I even love Maid Marion, which Erin just can’t stand, but at the same time can’t stop singing. The interview leaves a little to be desired, but the songs are fabulous and Page sounds in top form.

I wouldn’t say his singing was at top form but I think the band has some potential for a fun tour.

Mix some cool covers into the set along with some Vida Blue songs and I think these shows have a chance to be great. I wonder when/if Mike or Trey or Fish will make a guest appearance?

i believe page is on sirius tomm at about 1:00 pm for those looking for more page

and i think all his newer songs are about a breakup of some sorts, be it wife or band
