Good sir, U Discuss!
I never got to see this song performed by phish, I did get to see an acoustic version at a 70 VP show. 11.4.05 DeKalb, IL. NIU Convocation Center. Terrible venue, good show.
I love almost anything on roundroom. Especially Pebbles and Marbles.
The version of this song at camden right before coventry was really good if i recall correctly, I thought it was a great 1st set closer.

^i concur…love the IT version
For sure.
itttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt rules
I love the lyrics. Very pretty.
I heard an XM radio interview with Trey and he talked about this song. He said that when he first read the lyrics he cried. I don’t really remember anything else he said right now though… I’ll give it a listen and get some quotes up here.
After playing the tune in the studio for everyone he said he felt funny becuase he talked up the lyrics so much and the intro is so long. It took him 2 minutes before he even got to the lyrics.
Trey’s guitar work is beautiful on this tune as well.
Man, it sure would have been nice to have this song in rotation longer then what was possible. And I couldn’t agree more that Trey’s guitar work is beautiful. Trey can make me cry, and that something pretty damn special. Phish is IT
IMO if they were sick of playing the old songs they could very easily have put the newer stuff into regular rotation.
was listening to willie nelson’s red headed stranger the other day and was struck by how similar the begining of the album is to the intro chords of ‘pebbles and marbles’.
here’s ‘time of the preacher’… take a listen:
seen/heard this song live probably between Trey and Phish, I don’t know, 10 times, one of my newer “classics” I like to call them. Rockin fuckin tune.
I absolutely love this song. IT Fest 2nd day 2nd set was the high point of that weekend.
Ghost->MITM>P&M
At The 92nd street Y Interview whenever Trey reached for his guitar people would yell out different songs for him to play. I only Yelled at the end, when he went for his Gibson one last time. At the top of my lungs I yelled “Pebbles an Marbles”. And then he played it.
But he probably decided what he was gonna play before he even reached for his ax
You don’t know that.
You don’t know that!
good ear!
P&M is truly a powerful song. didn’t they play it at their “comeback” show? if so, that’s when i was first really blown away by it.
Jesus, Trey’s playing on this song on 2.20.03 is some of the sloppiest I’ve ever heard from him.
That set really took a nosedive after the Tweezer opener. I guess FEFY and PYITE are cool, but I don’t remember the PYITE being particularly good.
