The man of Janes Addiction, Porno for Pyros and now Perry Farrell’s Satellite Party. This guy rocks my world. Jambands have been numbing my brain for too long, I’m diggin rock and roll again! And I can’t get enough of Perry Farrell!

There are a few pretty sweet songs on that red/yellow album cover that has titties on it.
I had that cd 10 years ago, and loved it.
The Jane Says from Kettle Whistle may be one of the best songs eva.
Ug…I’m sorry but I hate Jane Says. Dear Lord, what a bad song.
Still, I like how you said that jambands numb your brain…it’s kind of true…there’s a load of good non-jamband stuff out there. I was the same where I was so into live jamband stuff that I missed out on some good studio stuff as well. Hail hail.
Stevo
right?!! too bad you dont like Jane Says though. that song kills
I also cant get enough of Blind Melon!
you on a 90’s kick or something
imagine if everytime you turned on the radio you heard this
Give me a word
Give me a sign
Show me where to look
Tell what will I find ( will I find )
Lay me on the ground
Fly me in the sky
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find ( will I find )
Oh, heaven let your light shine down (x4)
that would be terrible
Jane’s Addiction was my second great musical love…the first being Pearl Jam. Jane’s got me started on tape trading back when I was in Grade 8 and first got the internet. I’ve still got so many Janes/PFP tapes and videos, and I’m sure that lot’s of them don’t even circulate digitally. I’ll have to get on ripping those to CD one day, but once I got into the Beatles/Floyd in Grade 10 it was all over.
Some personal favorite Perry tunes include:
Three Days
Pigs in Zen
Then She Did
Trip Away
Good Gods/Urge!
Pets
Meija
…
Jane’s did so many cool covers too…they had one that they called Bobhaus, which was “Like A Rolling Stone” done to the music of a Bauhaus tune that I can’t remember the name of. They also did a version of “Ripple” for the Dead tribute album “Deadicated” that you can fidn on youtube. Apparently Jerry said it was his favorite track on the tribute album.
Perry definately had a huge influence on the live music scene as it stands nowadays, thanks mostly to Lollapalooza. I had every show that Jane’s played on that first Lolla tour on tape…I must still have them all somewhere. The last show they ever played, (the original lineup with ERic Avery on bass), I have on video, including what went down backstage after. Perry and Dave Navarro got in a huge fistfight after the show and I believe Dave throws a cooler at Perry’s head, and then it’s all over. Good times…
I love Pets and Meija! Send me some of those tapes!!!
good call.
not only responsible for years of great music but also responsible for one of the more defining aspects of generation X (Lollapalooza) and an innovator of the modern festival scene that i think we all love very dearly.
surely a man that will be remembered for a long time.
Ritual de lo Habitual was my go to CD during my “coming of age” days. That was a great summer. Absolutely one of my favorite CDs, although I never did check out anything else that Perry or Jane’s Addiction did.
Recommendations?
^ If you want some great chilled-out tunes, put Good God’s Urge on for a spin.
I’ve listened to Nothing’s Shocking a lot!
Listen to Porno for Pyros eponymous album. aka the one called “Porno for Pyros”
Get the first, independently released Jane’s album. It’s a bit rougher around the edges, but that was one band that was always rough around the edges…and in the middle too. Their first album has covers of the Velvet’s “Rock N Roll” and the Stones’ “Sympathy”. That’s the one that I never got sick of, and while I don’t listen to it all that often, I do throw it on occassionally and it doesn’t sound as dated as their second and third studio albums.
^yeah thats one of the songs I was thinking about but couldn’t remember.
Rockin’ stuff there.
Jane’s rulz!
Exactly!
