I’m with most that they’ll get in but not their first year. The way the Hall of Fame is heading is that EVERYONE will eventually get in. They force themselves to put in four or five artists every year so they can do the induction show but there’s really not enough Hall of Fame worthy artists out there to warrant them putting in that many every year. So we’re already getting borderline artists and other less-deserving bands who are being shoehorned in if only to meet the 4-5 band quota every year. Of course, after saying that, maybe they WILL get in their first year…they’re desperate enough for Hall-of-Fame-Worthy bands already.
I mean, for God’s sake, Percy Faith got in…he’s a one hit wonder!..If he gets in, then surely someone will put in Phish eventually. Not to mention that the Dead got in and lots of media sees Phish as the “next Dead” so they’ll get in for the same reasons that the Dead did.
Yeah,…Carlos is a good choice.
Him and Trey are pretty tight too. You can hear how big an influence Carlos is in Trey’s playing.
Carlos or Kid Rock is my guess.
I’ve read Kid Rock interviews where he mentions how much he loves going to Phish shows.
And it would be a more “modern” musician.
I don’t see how they are not inducted in the first year of being eligable. They have had too much influence not to be.
Their fests sparked how many other fests? They have influenced so many other bands, and have taken music to a whole new level. If they are not inducted the first year, well, the the Hall effed up.
As far as who inducts them:
Phil Lesh and/or Bob Weir
I think that woudl be extremly fitting, and very symbolic.
Also I think the music press is trying to push these guys (Trey, Derek Trucks, Mayer, etc.) as the “new” guitar gods, so they probably want to get Trey out there a little more, add some “legacy points” or something.
I’m not so sure that having Phil and/or Bobby induct them is a good idea.
I know that Phil and Trey are homies and all, but it seems to me that The Phish have spent their entire career trying to distance themselves from the “Next Grateful Dead” persona.
And it seems that it would have all been for not to have members of the Dead be the ones to induct them.
