Phish in 3D

^No demeaningness felt!

Honestly, if you guys really do want to hear what is bound to be a blistering, scathing, biased and pre-conceived review of this thing from me, I will go see it. Seriously. But my guess is that you won’t like what I have to say about it. Who knows? I could be proven wrong. It’s happened.

Not so much. There were a few spots where they could be avoided, but overall they were everywhere. As I’ve said, it wasn’t even the cameras themselves-- I’ve been to other phish shows that were filmed and it was no problem-- it was the effect it all seemed to be having on the band. It was just so damned trite and mainstream. But, hey, that’s a whole 'nother thread. :silent:

^Good thank you for clearing that up…

I guess you take what you take from it, I am a long time fan and have been to so many different ‘Phish’ related shows, theater events etc, that all in all I tend to find them entertaining and fun. I am so blessed to have the ability (work, family, time, money etc) to go see them (Phish in all walks of their life) and enjoy what I love that some of the smaller items bother me less, I guess.

If you go, my offer stands Dooj, I like reading your posts and understand your view, while I many not always agree, you will not read me calling anyone a negative person but pointing out a negative comment and trying to turn that around - sure…

Have a good one!

ok, finally getting to writing some quick thoughts about this

for some reason while at F8 the cameras didn’t bug me. of course i noticed them, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the shows at all… i think i just ignored them more or less… that being said, i can certainly understand how someone (dooj & others) could be bothered by’em and once you start thinking about something like that as a distraction at a show, well, it’ll piss ya off!

now… onto my experience at phish… 3D!! went with ryan, hank and andrea… had some drinks and whatnot prior to going to the theatre, was feelin’ fuzzy

first of all, i had a great time, saw a bunch of friends that ended up at the same theatre, got to see some phish and have some memories of F8 come back to me…

BUT

  1. i’ve said this before and i’ll say it again: when concerts are filmed and released (on DVD usually, in this case in the theater) it bugs the shit out of me how you NEVER get more than 3-4 seconds at a time with a camera view from the crowd or the soundboard, giving you a clear view of the whole stage, CK5’s work and all the lights… like how he synced up the lights on the palm trees, the motion of the crowd in front of you, the overall vibe… THAT’S WHAT I WANT!!! THAT SHOULD BE 90% OF WHAT YOU SEE… yeah it’s cool to see the close-ups at times, the 500+ shots of trey’s fingers on the fretboard, page spittin’ on his piano while singing, gordo smiling in a weird way, fishman squinting…etc…etc… but I want to feel like i’m at the show, especially in on a theater screen… it would have been so cool, and probably would have gotten people out of their seats to dance!!! every time they showed a shot from further out you could hear the crowd in the theater get excited. and then sure as shit, it’d be back to shots of Trey’s left nut. DAMNIT!!!

  2. the audio volume was not loud enough, so about 2-3 songs in i went to the bathroom and also talked to the manager and asked him to “CRANK IT UP IN THEATER 7 BRRAAAAH!!” they did and it was noticeably louder, so that helped a lot

  3. i wish the film would have focused more on Festival 8. i would have liked interviews with the band, crew and fans… at no point did they put any focus on the F8 experience, the different spectacles all around, the campgrounds, the badass harlem globetrotters running around on halloween, the spicy pizza stand that was so damn tasty, the vikings crushing the packers after the acoustic set… NOTHING.

  4. should’ve started the movie out with Party Time

ok, so those are my gripes. like i said, i had a lotta fun regardless, just certain things pissed me off… being critical is part of the game when you love something so much. right?

I don’t think I mrntioned it earlier… but my showing was LOUD. i enjoyed the heck out of it.

After Brad and I asked for more volume, they turned ours up and it was rocking as well! It seems they started out even lower than most of us thought they would.

There were about 50 people when I went. I knew about a third of them. My wife fell asleep (again). The bonus festie footage will be on the DVD. I was pissed at the festie about the big screen t.v. and all the sports they were showing on it. Why not trippy cult movies at 1 a.m.? Halloween showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show at 8 would have been lot’s of fun. 40,00 spunions doing the “Time Warp”? I like it. Disc golf course on the grounds? I like it. Tenative Trey? Page coming off like Garth from Wayne’s World while being forced to sing Lawn Boy? I’ll pass.
The low box office numbers are a result of corporate attempts to package Phish as a baby boomer haven, a safe place to send your teen while you go to Vegas for the weekend, and a general homogenization of it’s fan base for simplicitie’s sake. I know some people who went to 5 showings of this. Most people you coudn’t pay to go.
Parallel of the day. It was like going house shopping with a recovering alcoholic real estate agent. The view was great, the house was pretty, but you could tell that something was wrong with the sales pitch. That detracted from the overall sense of serenity that is needed to fall in love with the place.
Rambles to the bath tub because shouldar surgery is in my future

:wtf:

:wtf:

:wtf: +1

:wtf: +2

My favorite part…

C’mon Doojer let’s hear it :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah my left shoulder popped out through the top the other day. It’s been torn for so long that I lament not having surgery on it back when I had insurance. Now I gotta figure out Obama Care and see if they will sew me up. I’ll try to have secret sign if there is Vicodin effecting my posts in the future. :arrow_right:

So I went to the movie last night. While I did enjoy it I also think the criticisms here and elsewhere have alot of merit. The 3D was a distraction, my eyes never adjust to the 3D for anything but it was worse with the jump cut editing. More long range shots could have done wonders for this thing. More fest shots and crowd shots would have helped alot. I would have done the song selection differently, but more importantly they just didn’t catch the flow of the show. If they would have maybe picked a group of songs from some sets it probably would have captured the feel alot better.

But I did like it and the sound at the theatre was pretty good. Suzy was off the chain. Bag was a really good starter for this. Managed a good buzz while in the movie. I wouldn’t go again and buying it will depend on the extras and whether its available on Blu but it was still a pretty solid B. Just really think it could have been an A if done right.

^I hope to see many extras in the BluRay DVD as well!

Yeah, I gotta admit, you weren’t too far off. +1 on the sports screens. :nerd:

I’m seeing it tomorrow night, pretty stoked! I have a feeling that the theater will be nearly empty.
