Phish in 3D

 Now I get it! Yeah I was a little confused then I had to bounce.

I’m with you Bryan. I would have liked to see more of the ‘Scene’ too as well as more Kuroda magic. I would have picked a different song selection. Other than that, I thought it was good.

Oh yeah, I think I saw Judson, but not sure.

^Haha! Nice! I can’t wait til it comes out on DVD so we can post grabs of all the members of the Pa we can find. I got word from a buddy that doojette makes an appearance during one of the acoustic set flyovers. She had a blue parasol, so she was noticeable.

Now Phish really owes us some royalties!

I saw Phish 3D last night and it’s good, but not great. I thought it was a little weird that it was just a straight concert movie with no context provided as to what Festival 8 was, nor interviews of the band or fans. Obviously, I’m there to hear the music but I thought maybe a little background into Phish’s festivals or maybe just some footage of the lots, camping, interviewing people would be interesting. A few small clips of interviews of the band would have gone a long way.

Also, the sound levels are off in my opinion. Trey is turned way up, Mike and Fish are turned way down. There are also parts of the movie where the crowd noise is turned up for some reason. I think that 3D is a gimmick, so that part didn’t really thrill me. Though there were some cool things like the balloons and glow sticks flying. Page’s piano would appear to be off of the end of the screen a little bit - same with Fish’s kit.

The music itself was great, obviously. But now that we can look back at this in hindsight - much of the music during Fall Tour was even better played than the stuff at Fest 8. Phish just kept getting better and better as the year progressed.

Overall, it’s definitely for the hardcores like us who want to see their favorite band on the big screen. It’s not going to bring in any new fans, which is fine by me, but maybe not what they were intending? I’m not sure.

This is purely speculation, but I would hazard a guess that the production company had a lot to do with the lack of other material besides music. From a business standpoint it seems the point would be to showcase the 3D technology as much as possible and backstage interviews, shots of crowd, etc would not lend themselves to having ‘awesome’ 3D shots as much. That being said, I’m not big on the 3D at all. I feel like you lose resolution in a lot of shots/areas due to the 3D. I would have preferred to see that in regular HD. I would guess there might be more of the offstage stuff as ‘bonus material’ on the DVD. Whatever, it was worth the 15 bucks. If I didn’t go see the movie I just would have gone to bed at 9:30, this was far more enjoyable.

Anybody see a multi-dvd box set in the future? My little gripe is that there was nada from 10/31 set 1. I had such a good spot and such a gaudy getup on that would have been easy to pick myself out. Just look for Beeker. Maybe I loused up the shots so badly that they refused to put that set in. I take full responsability.

I saw a Beaker in the Movie!

Yeah I did too! It was kind of an ariel shot but I could tell it was him!

Not according to the production company:

But you’re right on the DVD material:

That’s why I’m waiting for the home video release. I know the 3D would drive me nuts.

Ah, thanks for sharing that.

^The dude from coventry blog said the same thing you did about the 3D:

I am going tonight. I have never seen a 3D movie before, so I figure this would be the only time I would ever want to go see one. Should be fun according to all the positive reviews you guys have been giving it.

hopefully i’ll get to see this in columbia sc before it closes. i gotta work all weekend so maybe wednesday.

The Lady and I saw it yesterday evening. SPECTACULAR!

This is truly a movie you could give a noob and they MAY understand Phish afterward.

Two thumbs WAYYYY UP!!!

I felt the same about the 3D. Not at all worth the ridiculous price increase for a concert movie.

I think the world is better for their endeavor.

I liked it, but I’m thinking I would rather have not had those damn cameras swinging around the crowd the whole time and just not had the video. those cameras annoy me for some reason.

the previews were really sweet with the goggles though. did you guys have the preview for the killer piranhas during spring break? that was classic.

there was also a very cool looking movie about owls flyin all around and savin the world or something. I think I might re-use my goggles and go to that one.

plannin on goin one night this week. hotta drive about an hr. to get to a theatre that shows it. But when i zoomed out on the map i saw alot of folks got it way worse than i do. Very seldom places are even showin it. How much were tickets, ive never even been to a 3d movie.

Saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. Wasnt crazy about the 3d, but oh well. The Page shots were really cool to see the depth.

Strange Design was a beautiful part I thought.

There was maybe ten people there not including my group, and it seemed everybody was in a “focus on the film” mentality.
