Phish in 3D

Well, the Coventry simulcast in St. Louis was a mega throwdown…we had a blast…snuck some booze in…puffed at set breaks…

This will be a lot different, but I gotta believe they are doing it cause it’s gonna be feggin badass!! I gotta give it a chance…I know they will get my 10 bucks…happily. :sunglasses:

after letting this thing sink in a bit, this is the idea that I came to in the shower…bunch of people just getting down in the theater hopefully…i’ll be there, do I expect it to emulate a Phish show? no…but is it gonna be better than just listening through speakers? most likely, so why not go…I don’t really see how this could go terribly wrong like some of you all are saying, its Phish music+video+3D lights, come on now

hahaha

Oh, and the Coventry movie theatre throwdown was awesome!

Glowsticks.
Drum circles.
Dancing.
Smoke.
Booze.
Seeing Trey rub his nose all night Motion Picture size…

I actually am looking forward to gathering up a group of heads and hitting a late night showing of this.

Yeah, I saw Coventry in a movie theater and we were definitely partying down. Of course, part of the difference then is that it was streaming live and we didn’t know what was going to happen. Obviously, that’s not the case with Fest 8… but it could still be a party in the theater for sure… I expect it will be. But that’s the part that makes it feel like a real concert more than any 3D technology ever could. I wonder how dancing effects the whole 3D thing? Do things move and distort when you move from side to side? :eh:

Still, I would have enjoyed the live version of 8 (you know… the actual festival that I paid thousands to go to) better without all those damn cameras. :ugeek:

^ You sacrificed your entertainment for us! Thanks doojer!

Always happy to help.

If you have not seen any of the new 3d technology…you’re missing out.

Well there goes some of the ammo that people throw around on here…

Agreed. I just don’t get the whole 3D fad…it really doesn’t make the visuals that much better. And I can’t imagine the boys in 3D…it’s like having Larry King in HD…every time you watch it, you wish it was standard definition. I’m not sure if I need Mike’s big nose flying off the screen at me.

Agreed.

On a side note, I too watched Coventry from a movie theater, it made me appreciate all forms of media. I was not able to travel there and this option was second to none…

3D Indio will be cool, I am for it and hope the show turns out as well as it could. Why not be excited for our fave band trying something new… You’ll always have your memories if you went, I did and I will not lose those because I attend the 3D…

And those cameras at 8 while not the norm, were a minimal issue. Most of the time I was dancing, watching lights and checking out Pages smile while playing. Not to watchin Mikes head bob etc…

Think about all the new fans that will be craving to see the band up close and personal after seeing this film.

Olympics. SNL. 3D Movie.

The year of PHISH.

To put this into perspective, “Australia” (directed by the guy that did Moulin Rouge) grossed over $60 million and was considered the number one box office flop of 2008.

I am afraid I am going to show up to this in theaters and see all the wrong types of people there. I don’t like to be judgmental or anything, but it seems like whenever I go to shows now (especially in Birmingham), I run into a bunch of stupid ass kids who don’t know anything about the band they’re seeing. For instance, at Trey in Charlotte, some punk in front of me (had to be like 17 years old) was thrashing around, bumping into everyone, drinking bourbon, and asking “WHAT SONG IS THIS?!” every time they started a new song.

You could have at least answered my question!

Let’s not fool ourselves here, they are not trying something new. They are jumping on a bandwagon that puts them in the company of Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers, Dave Matthews and U2. I’m not commenting on those artists, I’m just stating a fact. New for Phish, maybe. But this wasn’t the band “trying something new”, this was the band’s management trying to maximize commercial exposure (which, to their credit, is their job).

Ok…? I said, the band is trying something new… (please tell me you’re not insinuating the boys did not sign off on it, which then makes my point, they - Phish - agreed and let their management do their thing, right?) I never stated it was never done before, but for Phish, I have yet to see anything done in 3D.

I think your post made my point all in all… New for Phish, which is what I said and new for me, which I think is cool! I could care less about all the other bands and what they did 3D wise and thankfully my daughter is 18/19 and I never had to deal with the Hanah crap…

BTW - U2… :problem:

^Oh, they let management do their thing alright. That I will definitely agree with.

I still don’t see this as the band trying something new. TTE was the band trying something new. And, to that, I say “Hey guys, don’t take that bathroom break! The guys are trying something new and we should support them!”

But this? This isn’t the band. This is the band’s marketing machine. Phish doesn’t need 3D technology to take their music to the next level-- and I bet if they were asked, they would admit as much.

3D is so last week.

I want 5D.

We cannot forget they are still a band, still making $$$$ and this is an avenue that they decided to go down. If you blame their management, you are blaming them too… Last I heard they maintain the final say on all items Phish as they wish… So…
