Phish Phans for the Legalization of Cannabis in Cali!

I was thinking, if anyone was going to want to help with this cause, it’s us Phish phans. So, I started a fund raising group on taxcannabis.org for phans to raise money. If you guys know heads that might want to throw a buck or five towards a better world for all of us, feel free to send’ em this link! Obviously, people can donate however they want but it would be cool if a big chunk was credited to the phans!

I mean, shit, if the Mormons can crush gay marriage, the Phish heads should be able to legalize pot! Right??

And, I mean, I don’t really live anywhere near Cali, so I can’t get behind throwing money at this, but where exactly would this money be going anyway?

This isn’t some back alley grass roots campaign to nowhere. We’re really going to do this. It’s on the ballot and currently has a majority of support. The money goes straight to the official campaign (the page is hosted on their site) and is used for TV and radio ads (like this one).

And the ramifications will be nationwide-- I promise! (not to mention, it will be nice for Cali Phish shows!)

Even still…nation-wide doesn’t really help me. I’m all for you getting it legalized though…just wanted to be sure the money was going into the hands of the right people. I know your legit though man…just keep doing your thing.

This is going to pass, you guys. If you haven’t been witnessing what has happened in California for the last 2 years or so, you don’t understand how real this is. We are going to legalize cannabis, and then we will take it to the USSC.

The Phish page is a humorous way of me getting some of my buddies to donate (which, trust me, they will). I just figured I’d share it here. There are plenty of other ways to help without donating… taxcannabis.org/pages/spread-the-word

I think phans have something at stake here. Why not fight for a more phan friendly world?

I know that you have made it clear on that page that you are not in any way involved with the band, but I am not sure the band would want their fans to associate them with this sort of thing—in any way. Especially NOW after all of the substance abuse problems. I am all for legalization, don’t get me wrong, but I just think associating Phish phans with pot isn’t a good idea. Some phans are pot smokers–but a lot are not pot smokers. Just my 2 cents…good luck though, man. It seems you are very passionate about this issue, and I truly respect that.

^I get it. But people are people. I’m a phish phan, and I smoke pot. It’s just as easy for a phan to create a “phish heads against cannabis legalization” group, isn’t it? Or a “phish heads who like the color blue” group?

Plus, I think regardless of the band’s issues with drugs, they would be hypocrites to say that I should be labeled a criminal for choosing to smoke weed. I would hope the band and ALL the phans would support this, simply because they believe in the freedom to recreate as one pleases.

And, like I said, this was specifically somewhat of a humorous way of getting a few of my buddies to donate-- it’s not like we are now the spokespeople for the initiative. Unfortunately, the one guy I knew would donate did it from the main site… so it didn’t even show up in the amount that’s been raised by Phish phans… :crazy:

I have another page, too. A much more legit one… of course, that one has raised $5 less than the Phish one. :laughing:

Bottom line is, whether you smoke pot or not, or whether you think people should use it or not, its prohibition is 100% un-American and we should all come together to end it!

(BTW… you had no problem with the band pushing “Foam” beer on the Fest 8 heads. Should they not be associated with alcohol… at all? Or are you falling into the “reefer madness” hypocrisy that has fed cannabis prohibition for decades?)

And, for the record, I am passionate about a lot of political issues, not just this one. I fought just as hard for the rights of gays to marry (and still continue to…). I just thought this issue was one that directly effected the Phans. Because, I don’t know about you, but most shows I’ve gone to have had quite a bit of the wacky tobaccy going around.
