Phish plays Exile... the conspiracy!

Aren’t Phish eligible for the RHOF? 2012…2013?..hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Hmm, very interesting… Probably just a coincidence. neither band needs the other.

Voted dooj doesn’t get to post polls anymore.

^I thought you guys might like that option.

I guess my towel status has evaporated… :frowning:

I like where your heading on this one Dooj. I, for one, find it completely conceivable and more than 50% likely. Lest we forget the “Tell everyone to sit down” request during the Acoustic Set at F8. They have a big hand in the pot, if I do say so myself.

Trey: Okay guys I was thinking we could do Bowie or MGMT.
Page: I’d do either of those. I was also thinking…
Ring… Ring…
Trey: Hello? Yeah, what’s up? Yeah, no might be cool. We have some ideas we’re kicking around too… What’s that? Rerelease? How much? Oh. Okay, yeah that’ll work.
John: What’d they say?
Trey: What about Exile on Main?
Mike: Sure that’s cool.
Page: Yeah, I’m down.
John: Do I get to take my clothes off?
Trey: No, but has that ever stopped you before?
John: No.
Trey: So?
John: Uh okay. So… you guys want to go get some Taco Bell?

^ actually there was an alleged phone conversation that led to exile getting picked.I was listening to 93.1 XRT a Chicago radio station when an interview with trey came on. Lyn bramer asked trey about the upcoming fest and if there was any hints he could give about the album for the costume. trey said “actually…no” but I will tell you one thing up until a couple weeks ago I thought I knew what the album was and had half of an album learned when I got a call from page, and now we’re doing something completely different! lyn suggested they play the basement tapes and trey agreed that would be awesome and he loves that album. so… based on that I would say page had more of an influence on their decision then “phish management” or whoever you suspect. maybe the band knew the album was about to have a birthday and wanted to get in on the celebration early idk. I would really like to know what album trey learned half of and when will those songs make it into rotation?

Either MGMT or Electric Ladyland. Perhaps Kid A?

I think Phish is actually comprised of aliens from Mars and the local Mars folks really like Torn and Frayed…

i really think by Phish paying tribute to Exile (along with seeing the hype leading up to F8 and maybe seeing/hearing the costume set) the rolling stones were reminded about how much they love the album and everything it stood for/meant to them… at which point keith said to mick, “hey, we should re-release that sonofabitch! we have some extra tracks we could add to it… it’s fresh in people’s musical minds cuz of phish, their fanbase has a new, younger following too, one that we could really captivate… there are a lot of people out there that only know our hits, a lot of people have never heard Exile in its entirety… they LET’S DO THIS MUTHA FUCKAS!!!”

chicken and the egg situation… question: when was it first announced/rumored/etc that the stones were going to re-release Exile? i hadn’t heard about until about 2 months ago or so, when the buzz about Fallon’s Stones Week started

regardless, phish DID NOT get told to pick Exile… not a chance… nobody tells Trey Anastasio what to do… NOBODY!

The word has been spoken.

:ugeek:

Maybe they picked the Stones because it was probably the most unchallenging music to play. You teach a third grader basic guitar and in one or two months he or she could play their entire catalogue.

Nobody except his probation officer annd the drug court in Whitehall NY, that is.

^And that Indio crew member right before the acoustic set.

fair enough, those two i suppose… but after that, NOBODY! :open_mouth:

What about his wife? :silent:

^ :shh:  :shh:

My thoughts exactly. When I saw that Chicago Transit Authority was an option, I thought “no way they would try to pull that off”. There were a lot of other albums on the list that there was just no way they would attempt. Exile is simple, easy to play, and they absolutely killed it. Good choice guys.

^ There were a lot of easier albums. You realize they had to learn 18 songs to play Exile right? It is one of the longest albums out of the 100 or so they chose from. They could have chosen AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Ramones, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Pixies, The Police, The White Stripes, X, ZZ Top and on and on and on, and they all would have been easier albums to learn than Exile.

Exile has a lot of complicated tunings and two guitar parts for Trey to learn instead of just one…not to mention the horn arrangements. Exile was actually one of the tougher albums out of those 100 that they chose to cover, so give Phish a bit of credit won’t you?
