phish should totally cover _______

This is a great idea! I would love to see what they would do with some Jethro Tull. The only problem is what to do about the flute, but I guess Page could cover it on some synth effect or something.

I think Locomotive Breath could be even cooler though.

Anything from The Band’s self titled album

“Late In The Evening” - Paul Simon

Why? Because it is a fun song with great lyrics and I believe Page would come up with a cool piano arrangement for the horn part. Reasonable jam potential in a groove driven way.

"When I come back to the room, everybody just seemed to move
And I turned my amp up loud and I began to play

It was late in the evening, and I blew that room away "

Wot’s…uh the deal? , Pink Floyd

Running on Empty, Jackson Browne

They would totally rock Automobile by NWA…throw in a little page piano solo in the middle… Fish coming in at the end with the falsetto… it would be pure awesome.

But I don’t think it’s gonna happen. :smiling_imp:

Damn, I thought this today, too! I think Trey could replace Gilmour’s vocals well, with Page on harmonies. Such an a-mazing song.

:shifty: :open_mouth: :wtf:  :problem:

Lots of fun ideas here.

I WOULD love it. It’s a great tune. They’d have a tough time hitting those high notes though but they could do it with practice.

I should note that I’m referring to the full 45-minute version (which everyone should hear once)…not the shortened one they do on radio which is just the intro. Frankly, it’s mostly tongue in cheek when I suggest that since they would need way more than the flute…in fact the full song uses a ridiculous number of instruments and would be a tough undertaking to do live.

For example, here are the liner notes on the song and the instruments involved.

Ian Anderson – lead vocals, acoustic guitar, flute, violin, trumpet
Martin Barre – electric guitar, lute
John Evan – piano, organ, harpsichord
Jeffrey Hammond (as “Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond”): Bass guitar, Vocals
Barriemore Barlow – drums, percussion, timpani
David Palmer – Brass and string arrangements

Fish better practice up on that trumpet!

Seriously, some Tull would be pretty awesome.

A FANTASTIC suggestion. Not to mention the “I went outside and smoked myself a J” just before the lines you mentioned. That gets a big cheer too. I’d love to hear some more Simon songs like Boy in the Bubble or Proof or Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes.

Or anything from Music from Big Pink.
I always wanted them to cover “Time to Kill” from the Stage Fright album.

I think The Band “fits” Phish so well, don’t know why they haven’t covered more of their stuff.
Especially the vocals.
Damn, Trey has covered It Makes No Difference,…
We need to petition Phish to cover one of their albums next Halloween.

La Villa Strangiato by Rush…

Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt, by The Mars Volta.

You must have been phlegmatic in stature
The gates of thanos are a spread eagle wide
You let the shutters make sackcloth and ashes
Out of a blind mans picaresque heart

You take the veil
You’ll take the dive
You take the veil

It’s not over till the tremulant sings
These ides of march
Are they so make believe
How tempts the revenant
Slice up and not across

You take the veil
You’ll take the dive
You take the veil

A mass of gallon sloth
As flys have walls for feet
A rapturous verbatim-someone said but who’s to know
And when you find the fringe
The one last hit that spent you
You’ll find the ossuary spilling by the day

The iconoclastic had it coming for years
They know the prisons that you have yet to fear
Where thumbs hide inside of sleepingbag mouths
Adlib your memoires by casting a drought

You take the veil
You’ll take the dive
You take the veil

A mass of gallon sloth
As flys have walls for feet
A rapturous verbatim-someone said but who’s to know
And when you find the fringe
The one last hit that spent you
You’ll find the ossuary spilling by the day

Knife me in -hobbeling
Talking in it’s sleep again
Knife me in-hobbeling
Talking in it’s sleep again

Knife me in hobbling
Talking in it’s sleep again
Knife me in hobbling
Talking in It’s sleep again

Virulent hives- of bedpost piles
Virulent hives

Who brought me here
Forsaken, deprived and wrought with fear
Who turned it off
The last thing I remember now
Who brought me here
Forsaken, deprived and wrought with fear
Who turned it off
The last thing I remember now
Who brought me here

It would be GREAT, especially with Phish doing it. The Mars Volta usually jam out the atonal math section right after the last “a mass of gallon sloth” chorus, but I’m imagining Phish instead dropping a Tweezer jam during the funk jam that usually serves as the buildup to the last “knife me in”.

Pets-Porno for Pyros
Paradise-David Lee Roth

I completely agree. I’m surprised they haven’t covered more of their stuff, I can just them ripping into King Harvest or Jawbone or When You Awake. Oh, and I think they would completely rock Don’t Do It.

I was rooting for a band album at 8, hopefully sometime soon!
