I love looking back at the history of different stage setups for the shows… (correct me where I stray from truth)
AS EARLY AS I’VE EVER SEEN-99:
left to right; page, trey, mike, fish. straight line, center stage. starting in 91 (maybe earlier), fish and page were both up on stages, making all four brahs eye-level with each other.
99-HIATUS:
left to right: page, mike, fishman back a ways, trey. this setup had page mike and trey all on the same latitude, and fishman up on his podium further back, and sort of right-of-center, from audience view. This setup was centered by the rhythm power duo, and the melodic men on the periphery. trey, off on the side, had his keyboard thing. very cool.
REUNION (PART 1!) - BREAKUP (no longer!!!):
left to right: page, trey, mike, fish behind trey up on a higherpodium. this setup emphasized trey as central to the band, and fishman overseeing all the proceedings from up on his throne. interesting to put mike off the corner.
WHAT’S IT GONNA BE THIS TIME?!?!?!?!?!?
Personally, my favorite stagey-stage setup was the pre-hiatus one. I just love seeing pictures of them all there, in front of me, in a straigt line, seeing each other eye level. It’s so democratic. they all occupy the same amount of space on the stage. each 25%. which, in my mind, is how their contributions to the jams is divided. completely equally, as the stage setup shows. i cannot fucking wait for friday night man…
what are your deliberations about the hampton stage setup???
