I’ll second that.
I think in some cases the Trey solos after the composition section can really be beautiful. I’m a fan of the Island Tour version. I think this song works well as either a cool-down or a set closer (first set particularly). I still think the best set closers are either “Slave” or “Antelope.”

one of my best ‘phish phriends’ thinks this song is absolute utter crap and i once got into an argument with him about it. i mean, this guy is a huge phish head and has nearly every show in circulation (if not all of them by now). but he is also pretty critical and has bad things to say about many more phish songs than i do…
anyway, i don’t claim that this is their best song or anything, but i don’t know how you can not be touched by this tune…seeing it live i think i got goosebumps every single time the first “ooooooooooooooohhhhhh” kicks in…and yes the guit solo at the end is often absolutely beautiful, right up there with the Bug outro (or even better than)
To each his own… I find this to be one of the most boring rockers that they have…Simple Chord structure, Simple Jamming (I’m sure someone will throw some supposed SICK version at me) and all in all …(YAWN)
IF you’re in the mood, it’s great, otherwise I skip it.
I USED to skip this song 95% of the time.
Now, I generally tend to listen to it because I like it when Trey busts into the main “Caspian” chords at the beginning (that tends to rile up the audience!), and I’m also anxious to hear his solo at the end.
i heard a Caspian that was no fucking joke once. i sure wish i could remember more about it than that though.
