PROMOTERS TO SELL MORE MERCHANDISE TO MAKE UP FOR LOST REVENUE

Pollstar is reporting that concert promoters are planning to make shows more affordable in 2011, after high ticket prices caused low attendance throughout the past year. Promoters say they will push the sale of t-shirts and other merchandise to make up for the lost revenue.

Acts such as ZZ Top plan on selling tickets for as little as $10. “It’s time to give the value back,” said band manager Carl Stubner, “We’ll find other ways to make money.”

Meanwhile, not everybody will bring down their prices. Neil Diamond, for example, says that his large scale production prevents him from doing so. “As the shows get bigger, the expenses get bigger, so it’s got to be translated somehow to the ticket price. If I just used the guitar it’d be a lot simpler, but then I’d have to put 50 people out of work.”

According to Pollstar, ticket prices in North America rose from an average of $26 in 1996 to $67 in 2008. That number does not include order processing and convenience charges. When promoters raised prices again, concert attendance dropped by 12% in the first half of 2010, in comparison to the same period of time a year ago.

Promoters have promised that cheaper options will be available in 2011. “We know that if you lower the price, they’ll come,” Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino told investors in November.

Good

this is very promising. “We know that if you lower the price, they’ll come,” Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino told investors in November. It would make me go to more shows

I’ll believe it when I see it…

I mean this sounds good and all,…but something that sounds to good to be true usually is.
The local hometown shows for small bands might be cheaper, but I don’t see big acts cutting prices.

I mean Phish prices continue to go up,…and I don’t think we’ll be seeing them come down anytime soon.

Phish will hold pat for 2011 summer on costs though, I think anyway. I do think we will start to see Phish Dry Goods lower some costs as they are being put to shame by Amazon etc…

I guess I don’t understand how a band like Pearl Jam can sell their tix for 20 bucks and other big name bands continue to raise their prices. I mean honestly Phish could charge 25 bucks a head and still make a small profit and help all of us out in the meantime. Who knows I guess its just greed.

Phish, honestly is worth the price…problem is the cost of Phish shows keep me from being able to see other bands I’d like to see, so if this actually happens  …ZZ Top for 10 bucks? you bet

Um…I’m pretty sure my buddy paid like 60 bucks to see Pearl Jam in Columbus last spring…??

I’ve got my ticket stub right here from Deer Creek and it was 28.00 Face.

And I’m not saying they aren’t worth the price, just saying a lot of people would be helped out by a drop in price.

28.00 + 32.00 fees

mandatory $15 shipping option.

Heard about this yesterday. $1.99 flat fee for all events or somethin. Hope it’s fer real.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Oh…that’s funny…

Judging by how full Phish shows are at their current (high) price, I don’t think they would lower them unless they are either very stupid or very kind. Because they don’t seem to have any problems selling out shows.

They could come down. Costs of goods & services these days in relation to production/working costs are unreal sometimes.
