Questionable Live Phish Releases

Yep. 128. I was a little bummed it wasn’t higher, and that it’s not available as FLAC.

I’m just still puzzled that they’re offering it for free in one place and for .99 each elsewhere. And if it was a mistake, you’d think someone would have caught it…

While mistakes often get caught, there is a sort of limbo period where people get to witness mistakes first. In fact, that’s one way they’re caught.

What puzzles me is that I can imagine them being free tracks at 128kbps. I can also easily imagine that there was supposed to be a clip there and the error happened with the clip file somehow.

I have a harder time imagining that they’d sell mp3s at 128 (I’ve never bought mp3s, is that standard?) and that FLAC wouldn’t be an option. So that would lead me to understand that the mistake is the one that’s for sale. But I can’t picture how that could be a mistake. How do you accidentally start selling something online?

this is a solid show…really nothing bad here. This would be a release like Live In Brooklyn, that works for hardcore fans but also appealing for normal people. ;D

Brooklyn works for hardcore fans only because we’re starving for Phish on DVD. I would take any other show from summer '04 on DVD any day.

There, that’s my questionable live Phish release. Not a terrible show, but come on…

+1
Greg I feel like every time you post I am sitting here nodding my head in agreement. The quality of the recording is great though.

Thank you. And yes, it’s amazing quality. Much better than the Vegas DVD or even the Bittersweet Motel extras.

wow downloading the 2 free bonus tracks now

NICE

what is sad is that my two LP releases that I have the nice cool packages for are… 16 and 5.

the fizzle-out ween (which I still like), and the insanely lackluster alpine. Liked it on paper at the time… but I don’t really dig how Farmhouse tunes translated live.

WHAT?! You don’t like live Piper, Jibboo, or Twist?! Or do you just mean the Farmhouse songs on Live Phish 05 aren’t very good??

I’m guessing this is probably what he means. Although I thought the “First Tube” in the first set RAGED, and it is one of my favorite Phish versions ever. The “Piper” and “Twist” from set II are average at best.

I lost disc 2 of this series, and disc 3 is scratched to all hell, so I really only listen to the first set from time to time. But from what I remember, wasn’t the segue from “Piper” into “Rock and Roll” pretty good? I’ve always like the “Tweezer -> Walk Away” segue, too.

that did come out bad. I LOVE Piper and First Tube, they’re faves of mine!

unfortunately… here’s where my “you noob!” comes in… I haven’t heard a live jibboo, farmhouse, back on the train… and that twist is the only live twist i’ve got…

It’s all good. I’m sure eventually you will. “Farmhouse” tends to be more or less the same every time, but I think it’s a beautiful song. “BOTT” can lend itself to some great jams, and, well, “Jibboo”…HEAR AT LEAST ONE VERSION AT ALL COSTS. I’d recommend: 12/10/99, RCMH '00, 7/4/00, DC '00, 7/29/03, Miami '03, and even Coventry isn’t that bad. The 7/4/00 is one of those “hear at all costs” versions because it strays away from typical “Jibboo”-fare and clocks in around 30 minutes.

“Gotta Jibboo and you keep on drinkin’ too!”

teh_edit: “Jibboo” is one of those songs that I craved to see live. It contains my favorite bass line, and the groove it produces it just the right amount of space/groove/Trey noodling. I can’t, for the life of me, fathom why some fans don’t care for this song. Of all the song I saw live, when they started up the 7/29/03 version, this was the one I was most excited about. That and the “Crosseyed” to open set II.

I think people got sick of Jibboo because they played it so much, and it was usually the same jamming style.

Ghost you forgot 2/20/03! Nasty funk in that one.

This whole debate seems to bring up something quintessentially Phish - No one fan has exactly the same taste.

I have no love for the Japan show (LP04) nor LP05. I think that LP08 (7.10.99) is not that great (the awesome CDT notwithstanding).

By the same token, I can’t quite comprehend the lack of love anyone cannot show towards LP11 (11.17.97) My ATFS (all-time favourite show).

But just as many things that Phish have done throughout their career, they are following their own muse, not bowing to the whims of their fans.

ATFS? Please tell me you would never use that in real life.

I agree, what I love about phish is that there is discourse about their shows in general. I don’t care if you think Coventry is the best show ever, if you are taking the time to join the OhKeePa to express that opinion, than you are alright in my books. You have to listen to a fuck-ton of Phish before you can think that arguing about the merits of one show versus another is a fun idea.

FYI Coventry is hetty and it’s the only show I’ve ever heard.

What?? You don’t???

I’m always using ATF attached to something. Like the other day I was watching me some star trek and commented to my friend, that has to be my ATFTVS. And then I was eating me up a bowl of Cinnamon Grahams and I observed, ‘without doubt- my ATFBC’

Oh kEe PA is easily my ATFMB

Good acronym dude. Maybe my ATFA.
