just thought i’d open up a thread to voice questions and concerns about the polling/tournament/cactus challange. i’ve taken it upon myself to keep the project moving… if you don’t like the way things are shaping up, let me know and we’ll set up a good old zulu stick fight to sort things out.
note: format polling ends sunday 2/5 at midnight EST; tournament sign-up ends wednesday 2/8 at midnight EST (see threads for details)
Yeah, I don’t get this OKP tournament. Can someone give me teh low-down.
basically, we will be having a chess tournament over the next month to decide who will create the polls for the okp match against mike. the top three to four players from the board, as decided by the tournament, will collaborate to provide us with the best options each move. the general population will then vote to decide which of these moves the okp will make against mike.
if you’d like to take part, simply create an account on gameknot.com (its fast and free) and post your screen name on the sign-up thread.
there are specifics on the sign-up thread as to how the tournament will be arranged but it will basically work like any standard sports playoff… divisions and rounds… winners of each division will move on to the next round until we have a winner. once all the names come in, i’ll map it out in detail.
edit: btw, you don’t have to sign up for the tournament to help the okp play against mike, everyone will be able to vote on the moves… it should be fun though, and all are welcome to play… however, if you do sign up be prepared to have your ass handed to you by the horned rollo 
how many people will be on this polls for the moves comittee??
i was thinking the comittee would consist of the top three of the tournament… and that the group could be moderated by the winner. then they could either rotate the job or meet in the chat to discuss the options.
we could also just leave the logistics of the comittee up to the winner. thoughts?
I am going to have a problem with the time of moves per day. I think you should be able to complete AT LEAST 12 moves in a day, not just a day a move or whatever you are suggesting. Some games can last 5 minutes, other games can last an hour, but I honestly do not believe we will need DAYS to finish a game. Just my two cents.
^ That is true, but when you hold the bar too high, and people cant find the time to hop online and make a move 12 times a day, then it kinda fucks up the pace that everyone else is moving. If we set a slower pace, and people that want to move quciker do so, then noone will be disappointed, and if need be, we can speed up the matches if we start running out of time.
But whatever, anything is fine with me.
It honestly does not take 3 days to finish a match. If you can post on OKP, you can get a chess game in.
Remember we have to go at Mike’s pace. Let him tell us how often he wants to make a move.
the games move at whatever pace you want them to. if you and your opponent want to set a time and finish a game in a single sitting… thats fine. you just have to move at least once in three days or the program makes you forfeit.
people have jobs, school, families… and live in different time zones/countries. this way everyone who wants to be involved can be.
plus timed matches are often decided by mistakes… paced matches are decided by strategy. with seven weeks to finish there’s no need rush things.
who is this “Mike” character I keep hearing about?

just a thought, but maybe in a few weeks a goderator or high level official should leave a message with Mike explaining more of the logistics, possibly zoot since he’s pretty much organized this whole thing, and very well. kudos to zoot!
I’m willing to bet someone close to Mike (Mike?) is checking this site out…
I hope atleast… Or else this is going to be difficult… Trying to leave messages on his voice and all.
after the nine weeks we may have to barrage his voicemail with messages giving him a contact person. all mike will really need to do is sign up for an account and wait for a challenge from astral’s account… but i’m sure it won’t be the first thing on his mind after he gets done recording.
btw, great to see that tournament list growing… folks have until wednesday. don’t get left out in the cold. no cleet, rasta, golden, greg, neck? sheeeet.
