Quick Phish Pick-Me-Ups

I work in sales, and on average half of my day is spent making calls to customers / prospects. Literally dozens of calls. This is kind of tedious and mentally draining (especially for someone who’s default setting is to listen 95% of the time and talk 5% of the time). So I have a routine that every hour I take a 5 minute breather, fill up my water cup, and listen to a short and high energy Phish* song. This means lots of short Tubes, Sample in a Jars, Llamas, Caverns, etc.

Please give me your short (<5), energetic Phish suggestions. (Specific shows are encouraged, but not necessary)

  • 99% of the time it is Phish. The other 1% is You Get What You Give, by New Radicals.

ASS HANDED

2001 from the gorge in 2013 is great, might be a hair longer than 5 minutes.

On a related note most versions of Martian Monster are nice and high energy (and originated in the 2001 above).

-Any Anarchy and/or Revolution
-Any Spock’s Brain
-After Midnight from Cypress Day 2 Set I
-Misty Mountain Hop from Toronto 99. Not short, but damn that energy.
-Any How Many People Are You
-Any Let’s Go
-Prince Caspian - 11/6/98 - The version where “that naked dude” jumped on stage. Doesn’t seem like high energy but it gets there quick.
-Born Under Punches and/or Great Curve
-Any I Always Wanted it That Way
-Any Tuesday

That’s all I got for now.

This is a smokin show with a sick sounding mix! Sadly, it’s been years since I’ve listened to it. I’m pretty sure it was one of the first tapes I got +20 years ago too (god damn that makes me feel old). I’m on Mound right now. The upcoming Fluffhead and Run Like a Big Black Furry Antelope sequence is so well executed. Really wish phish.in’ had the second set up! If I remember correctly that Brother was on point.

Water In The Sky

Don’t know if you’re open to specific segments of jams, but starting at 20:17 (LivePhish) of Baker’s Dozen Chalkdust is truly spectacular. That riff at 20:17 alone is enough to lift my spirits.

I know exactly what you mean, and feel the same way about that part of the song. I’m not sure if the riff has the full effect unless you listen to the full song jam, but it definitely has that “the sun just came out and smiled down on me favorably” feeling for me. I’ve only made it through 9 of the BD shows, but that’s the song/jam of the run for me so far.
