R.I.P. Buddy Miles

Surprised no one has mentioned this.

Buddy Miles: 1947-2008

From the Duke to Hendrix.
Legendary drummer George “Buddy” Miles passed away peacefully and quietly last night (Tuesday February 26) at his home in Austin, TX. Buddy will be greatly missed as a wonderful person and as a truly gifted musician. Miles got his start as bass player for Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Count Basie and eventually rose to fame as drummer for Mike Bloomfield and Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys. Although Band of Gypsys was short lived, the gig led to a very prosperous career finding Miles working with Carlos Santana, David Bowie, George Clinton and more.

The Miles family asks for your prayers and that you respect their privacy. A tribute show will be announced within a short period of time and all are welcome to come and share in the magic that was Buddy Miles.

See you on the other side Buddy!

He was a good dummer I guess. Better than Mitch Mitchell anyway.

the world lost quite a jammer today. I just saw a flier for one of his shows on a light pole just a few months ago too. Jamming right up to the end.

RIP

Damn, I didn’t even realize. I bet my old jazz professor was quite upset about that.

Listened to Electricladyland last night and Voodoo Child (Slight Return) was on the radio on my way to work. Sometimes I forget how brilliant Hendrix’s studio material is.
