R.I.P. Deer Creek?

yep

I had heard a rumor and just got done doing some research…

Don’t know if its been mentioned here, but Deer Creek (Verizon Wireless Center, Noblesville, IN) will be shut down at the end of the concert season.

My sister told me something about a Verizon Wireless Center being built in downtown Indianapolis. Which means bu-bye to our rural outdoor hot-spot paradise of the Midwest. This is the last concert season, but the venue itself won’t be demolished until 2008.

I don’t know which is worse:

  1. Deer Creek being replaced by a strip mall

      OR

  2. The last band to play at Deer Creek will be Insane Clown Posse.

very sad, but both are true :’(

I’ve seen 30+ shows at Deer Creek; saw Phish 15 times there from '96-'04 . The first show I saw there was Phish 08-13-96 and the last show I saw there was Roger Waters 09-30-06.

I’ve never enjoyed a venue more than Deer Creek. I get chills and naturally high just driving by and seeing it from the interstate. I share so many memories with many people there.

The lot, the lawn, the taper’s section, the moat, huggin’ the gate in the front row!!!, the shakedown, the white fluff, the heady old school VHS bootleg guy, the creek, all the campgrounds, good family, the beans, and the corn,…I love it all!!!

ah, its all coming back now...

...I can almost smell the colors

I think its time for a little 1 on 1 for me and a couple Deer Creek boots.

peace ya’ll

happy phishin’,
Phoos

holy crap!!

the VHS bootleg guy!!!

i havent thought about him in years.

rip, deer creek…i bid you adieu.

man I’m glad I didn’t rear end the car I nearly rear ended on our drive back to the campsite after 6.23.04.

that would’ve been a huge mess. I would’ve been in some trouble.

RIP Deer Creek. I loved the two nighs I spent there.

lame

its not even gonna wait for me to go there?

Loved that place. So sad to see it go! If they build one in downtown, it certainly won’t be anywhere near the same. No 1/2 mile hike to the campsite, no cornfield surroundings, it just won’t be the same. This bodes the question: How long until Alpine is on the blocks? If LiveNation is getting rid of all the big sheds, I figure it’s only a matter of time.
What the hell is going on!
RIP Creek…

Where in god’s name would they put a Deer-Creek like amphitheatre in downtown Indy??

It’d have to be 10 times the size of The Lawn at White River.

I just read that the Lawn at White River only holds something like 8,000 people!?
Is that right?
Some guy was quoted as saying that it has the potential to be the most state of the art concert venue in the downtown Indy area. Now, I’ve never seen/heard of it, but that seems like a little fluff job to me! 8,000 people!?!?!

No, 8,000 is a bit much. I think it’s closer to about 5,000. Although I read somewhere that they may have added some space.

It’s definitely not as big as one would think.

Well, this really is sad news. I saw more shows at Deer Creek than any other venue, I think. Did not miss one show there. It was like coming home every summer to somewhere familiar. I loved how there would all of a sudden be a LOT of boiled corn on the cob in the lot from where kids would raid farmers fields  I loved the lawn there that melted into trench. I love camping there and the surrounding campgrounds. I feel like they always brought there A game to at least one night of the annual run at the Creek. I really am sad about this.

R.I.P. indeed.

I was just looking at the orange wristband I still have in my car from Green Acres Camping 2004.

that was a wild place.

Yeah, this is sad.

Here is the original thread about this:

I’m thinking of heading down there to see Dave Matthews & Umphreys just cause.

The first place I ever saw the boys play.

If you Google image “Deer Creek Phish” on the third page on the top row at the far right is none other than a picture of our very own Brett!

I was there at Deer Creek back in 1995
I think it was June maybe July
But Jerry was still alive

All the kids in that parking lot
They tore that fence down
And I blamed them
For the second show getting cancelled.

I really wanted to go
I saved up all of my dough
I didn’t go to any other shows
And I got my tickets M.O.ed
And I never missed a Deer Creek show
From '89 to '95
I was happy just to be alive
On my yearly Indiana vacation

But that was cut short by a bunch of jealous,
party bashin’, buzz thrashin’, gate crashin’, stinky bastards

And if you’re one of them
And you hear this song

Fuck you
You cock sucking motherfucker

Fuck You
You cock sucking motherfucker

Fuck You

I’ll never forget the ruckus and turning around to watch all those fuckers jump over that fence. Half the crowd was cheering and i was in the other half that knew this was not going to turn out well. Not to mention it was the worst show they ever did there! Scarlet->Fi ???

i got third page…second row…far left.

but whatevs

Brett, i need some diet tips!

if it tastes good, eat it!
