(#2) 12/7/97 Dayton, OH v (#7) 8/9/98 Virginia Beach, VA

Sunday, 12/07/1997 Ervin J. Nutter Center, Wright State University, Dayton, OH
Set 1: AC/DC Bag -> Psycho Killer -> Jesus Just Left Chicago, My Mind’s Got a Mind of its Own, It’s Ice -> Swept Away > Steep > It’s Ice, Theme From the Bottom, Tube, Tube Jam -> Slave to the Traffic Light

Set 2: Timber (Jerry), Wolfman’s Brother -> Boogie On Reggae Woman > Reba, Guyute > Possum
Encore: A Day in the Life

Notes: Psycho Killer was unfinished. JJLC included a Rocky Mountain Way tease. The jam after Tube was basically a Tube Reprise without the lyrics. The second verse of Guyute was whistled and not sung. Boogie On Reggae Woman was played for the first time since September 13, 1988 (989 shows). Possum included Charge teases.

Set 2: AC/DC Bag > Sparkle, Run Like an Antelope, Brian and Robert, Waste, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, You Enjoy Myself, Frankenstein, Chalk Dust Torture, Hello My Baby

Encore: Terrapin Station
Notes: AC/DC Bag included an Electric Funeral tease. Somewhere Over the Rainbow was played for the first time since August 13, 1996 (152 shows). Terrapin Station made its Phish debut at this show, as the band commemorated the third anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s passing.

Hmmmm, no love for VA Beach?

:Bites tongue: A promise not to bitch is still a promise…for this round.

This is kind of the weakest match-up in the tournament I think.

I’ve never been gaga over VABeach’98, but I have loved Dayton '97.

I like the day before VA Beach a lot more, so I got to go with Dayton.

Yeah I agree. To me the best part of the VA Beach show is the Terrapin Station. I went with Dayton.

i LOVE both shows, but dayton has it. love the gin from VB.

12/7 – Damn, what a 1st set!

I would still consider this a good match-up even without the Terrapin encore. The Gin, Bowie, AC/DC Bag, and YEM are top-notch. In fact as I’m not totally gay over the Dead I don’t even consider that as the highlight of this show. More like the icing on the proverbial cake.

That being said, yeah Dayton 97 is pretty fucking sweet so I’m going with Dayton.

I always feel like 12/7/97 is overrated, unless I’m actually listening to it. I gotta give props to that show, it is too solid to vote against.

I’m not totally gay over the Dead either. So they could have encored with something else and I still would like this show…just not as much as 12/7. Underrated Reba and nice Wolfman’s->Boogie On, among the other highlights.

they could have played farmhouse for an encore and 8/9/98 would still be a sick show. terrapin was a bonus. i’m still voting for dayton straight through to the end though.

::waits for neil to comment on dayton slave::

Best. Slave. Ever!

thereee it is…

Yeah I’m not some gigantic Dead fan either to be honest. I use Ship Of Fools as my name because I love the song, not really because I’m a Deadhead or anything. But that Terrapin Station gives me chills when I listen to it all the same. More than anything, the crowd reaction is just so powerful.

I’d do Donna. So I’m not gay for them either. That’s why I’m a nutter for 12/7

I thought maybe you were a Planthead!
