The '98 is undeniably great, if a bit sloppy at times.

The '97 I was never too enthralled about.

Soundcheck: Back at the Chicken Shack, Come On (Part One), Wipe Out, Louie Louie, Jam (with HYHU and Louie Louie), Ginseng Sullivan, Funky Bitch, Jam (with Lifeboy and Limb By Limb), Jam

Set 1: Funky Bitch, Ya Mar, Carini, Runaway Jim, Meat > Reba, The Old Home Place, Dogs Stole Things, Vultures, When the Circus Comes, Birds of a Feather

Set 2: Buried Alive, Wipe Out, Chalk Dust Torture -> Mirror in the Bathroom -> Chalk Dust Torture -> Dog Log -> Chalk Dust Torture > Sanity, Buffalo Bill > Mike’s Song -> I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove -> Wipe Out -> Weekapaug Groove, Weekapaug Reprise > Run Like an Antelope

Encore: Wading in the Velvet Sea, Golgi Apparatus > Wipe Out

Notes: Ya Mar contained I Dream of Jeannie teases from Mike. Once again, Carini included lyrics about the streaker from three weeks earlier. Mirror in the Bathroom (which was subtly teased by Mike earlier in the set) made its Phish debut and Wipe Out was played for the first time since April 27, 1991 (721 shows). Chalk Dust included more Wipe Out teases. Dog Log was unfinished and sung over a more bluesy progression than usual. Some funny banter ensued during the encore, as Fishman and Trey took verbal jabs at each other. This show was officially released as Live Phish 06.

Saturday, 12/13/1997 Pepsi Arena, Albany, NY
Set 1: Ya Mar > Axilla > Theme From the Bottom, Ginseng Sullivan, Strange Design, Sample in a Jar, Vultures, Tube, Good Times Bad Times

Set 2: NICU, Punch You In the Eye, Ghost, Mike’s Song -> Llama, When the Circus Comes, Weekapaug Groove -> Catapult -> Weekapaug Groove, Harry Hood

Encore: My Soul, The Squirming Coil

Notes: Ya Mar was unfinished. Mike’s Song included a Funky Town tease, Foxy Lady quotes from Fishman, and some memorable vocal interplay from the band that included a chant to “Bring in the Dude.” During Hood, Trey asked Chris Kuroda to turn off the lights for a Blackout Jam and the audience responded with a shower of green glowsticks. The opening act was J. Willis Pratt & We’re Bionic.

I went with Worcester because it is the titties. But it was a fairly difficult decision.

You’ve seen my resume. You know I love the segue-fests. Worcester (pronounced: wiss-tah) '98 all day d00d

Oh no you didn’t!

If I was unbiased this would be a very tough decision. But as I was at this Worcester show and not the Albany show I am biased…Worcester it is!

EDIT: Wow, I’m surprised we have a blow-out here really

I’m not too surprised.

Live Phish release VS show you actually have to search out yourself.

Oh Kee Pa, the Land of the Newbs.

(this newb voted for Wis-tah too )

yeah I kinda like that 12.13.97 show but the 2nd set of woostah is legendary

I like 12.12.97 better than 12.13 honestly.

much prefer the first night of Albany that tour. I’m actually surprised Rochester didn’t make it.

Albany. It’s funny because it seems like all the shows I’m voting for I’m basing my decision on the quality of the Mikes Groove, but although the 11/27 Mikes Groove is undoubtedly better, I just love the craziness that goes down in that 12/13 second set…plus '97 cowfunk rules all.

Screw you guys, I’m going home.

12/13/97 owns me. I love the craziness of that show, but what’s a boy to do.

Thanks for putting this tourney together!
