History 4 me. 1992-2000 2 Fluff’s. 2009 3 Fluff’s.
It’s a real cornerstone to this group of musicians’ foundation that today’s jugernaut still stands. As much as people want 1997 to be “The Year” (and maybe it was) It was the early compositions that it’sfan base It’s this formative song that raised the banner to herald in the return of The Phish. It meant this is us exposed and raw. For them to come back that way was a signal. To the hidden, the skeptical, and the too old. It said “I know what you need and I got it right here buddy”. I remember joking around before Hampton one night. We were talking about a big group cry or sigh in the event of a Fluff opener. Soon it was over and throwing Glow Worms instead of glow sticks was the new order of the eve.
The tension (it was there with the excitement) of March 6, 2009 was enormous. I was nervous for some reason. I had questions. Are they what I remember? Will it be great? Is this really happening? For them to nail Fluff on the 1st play (despite the glowstick Trey took to the shoulder) Answered all those questions and more. I don’t see any other song this year coming close to that.
The nice jamming from other songs in the tourney should wait until 2010 is in the books. We all know that next years tournament will be be a dogfight 
Some crazy shit should make 2009’s type 2 and Cow look like this years type 1. Well you get my point.

justice is being served…theres no way the energy before and after hampton fluff makes it better than ghost…the bracket buster is for best played song and in my opinion most of this years ghosts and most of this years fluffheads were better than hampton fluffhead…lets not forget they could have played waste to open hampton and there still would have been a rettttarded amount of energy or ac/dc bag haha cuz people wouldnt know how many times it would eventually open up 09 shows…all im saying is that this fluffhead is a little bitt fluff’dhead and this albany ghost was voted in for being better than hartford ghost and asheville and miami ghost…this ghost is the real deal…no fluffing…it took till november 28 to finally hit the big ghost and it definitly takes the cake on pfffft hampton fluff’d

I remember calling the Fluff opener, without really thinking it would REALLY happen.
Then I got a text from a friend who was there that said:

I flipped!
When I went back and listened to it, it was nailed, like I knew they would do it!
There were better Fluffheads in '09. I think there were one or two better Ghost’s, too.
But Fluff’d has to take the cake. Like lawnboy said, it was a signal. A very logical signal for things to come…

I think about 95% of the arguments in the thread are legit. It’s a really tough one.
I went with Ghost because I was in Albany and completely blown away. Unfortunately, I was not at the Hampton show to compare. I think there are different types of energy at shows and I can say that the energy during the -7>Ghost was some pretty powerful stuff and it was almost 9 months after their first show back. That powerful energy came from the intricate 10th dimension type jamming the band produced that night, not just because they walked onstage and played notes.
