finally hampton fluff is going down
I gotta go listen to both of these…
Hampton Fluffhead. I wasn’t there, but it made me cry anyways.
i was AT the Gorge and not at Hampton and i still voted for Fluffhead.
that moment simply resonated throughout the whole world.
Should I vote for Bathtub Gin because I think it has less of a chance of taking down the Camden Sand? hmm…
This Gin made it to the Final Four as the Cinderella…Fluff Vs. Sand=Sand Best of 2009
dont be so sure
I don’t get it I just don’t get it… yes the atmosphere… yes the emotion. but fuck this is truly NOT the best fluffhead much less the best song of this year. By the way this poll goes they could have opened hampton with Time Turns Elastic and that THAT would be up in the final four now. grrr.
I disagree with your last statement. I don’t know, I’ve been seeing Phish for 15+ years now and the emotional Phish moments can put a feeling in me that nothing else can…I wasn’t even at Hampton but I can totally see why somebody would vote for this Fluffhead. And the fact that it WAS Fluffhead sealed it as one of the most perfect moments in Phish history. After all of the criticism of “sloppy” musicianship during post-hiatus and everybody clamoring for the Fluff those years gave a lot of people the impression that they just couldn’t play that kind of shit anymore. Fluffhead opener at Hampton was more than a great opener and a bustout…it was a statement. Would you be happier if the bracket was titled “best moment of 2009”?
Would make more sence I guess the confusion lies with people interpreting this bracket in many different ways some looking at placement, emotion, execution etc etc. I just don’t see fluffhead being the best thing that happened in 09 in a sea of pure excellence from this band.
Completely agree…i think its silly that hampton fluff’d is even in this…it is nottt one of the best tracks of the year…gorge gin and camden sand are much better proof that phish is back and capable than hampton fluff!!! I dont understand how this isnt obvious to everybody who actually knows something about phish
Bingo.
For me, it’s not only about how well something is played from a technical standpoint. Just as important are the placement of the song, the appropriateness, the significance and, yes, the emotion surrounding it. I’ve always felt this way.
So, taking all criteria into account and not just technical structure, Hampton Fluffhead comes out the clear winner for me.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t stick his head in it.
Fluffhead and 'cid should not be taken out of this bands identity. They may not take it anymore. But a lot of spunions flocked to The Phish when Jerry just wasn’t fast enough for us anymore. Historically this Fluffhead was a huge deal to a lot of people including the band. If you were to ask me in 10 years what was the song of '09 I’m sure Fluffhead will come out of my mouth before I even try to analyze the question. I’d say “They busted out Fluff at Hampton, They got let back in Red Rocks, They hit a lot of their old stomping grounds, got silly for New Years (again),and did an acoustic set at a Halloween/Festie.” Fluffhead is the only song that would be an automatic answer. Even if Fluffhead goes down He’s still a winner in my book ![]()
Guess which one I voted for!!!

Fluffhead was too much of a…
“HERE’S JOHNNY!” to lose…

Go Phish.
really good gin jam > an emotionally significant, mediocre fluff…write that out 100 times and then once it’s lodged in your brain tell me you know something about phish…i dont get why some people just dont see the facts…if we’re talking emotion then albany ghost should still be around…the emotion after they finally pulled out back-to-back long jams and broke free…thats real emotion…I agree with whoever said they could have played TTE…anything they played fisrt at hampton was going to get fluff’d hard…dont let that emotion of phish being back sway you against voting for an actual good jam
That would have been inappropriately placed and would never have evoked the same emotions. You clearly know nothing about Phish. ![]()
^hahah you clearly know nothing about hyperbole bud…and yea i clearly know something about phish because I’m suggesting that a really good gin jam(in a mediocre jamming year) is better than a decent fluff that has some emotion…youre the one who doesnt know anything about phish if you dont see the reasoning behind that
