RD6: Fluffhead(Hampton) VS BathtubGin(Gorge)

^ I don’t think you got my point.

I still like the Hampton Fluff better than that Gin. Better than any Gin, in fact. Guess I know nothin’ bout Phish!

^ yeah, im afraid that statement right there proved that you dont…listen to 6-28-00 gin, id take it over anything from 09 easily and i am big on 09

^My untrained ears probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Tied…coo

I was very reluctant to post this figuring the best approach would be to ignore it…but…

I wasn’t at either of these shows, but I can fully understand the argument for either of these songs being considered the “best of 2009”. They are both special in their own way.

I don’t think anybody can be “wrong” about what they like. Claiming that somebody doesn’t know anything based on their personal preference is ignorant and something that really irks me about a lot of Phish fans.

And you sound like a dick, what the hell? It’s a fucking game dude, on a message board, about a band…It almost makes me wish I voted for Fluffhead.

That was my point.

After a quick lead, Fluffhead took a good uppercut and was down for a two count!

damn, this is a close one. how much longer is this poll open?

I’ll say Sunday night, maybe Monday afternoon.

whoa there…i back the whole personal preference thing…all i was trying to say was that i have no idea how someone could take a mediocre fluff over the best gin of the year…i never said anyone isnt entitled to their opinion and i could care less if hampton fluff’d wins…remember, all they did was just play fluffhead at hampton, at gorge they actually made something of gin…im just wondering how real phishheads dont see that difference…this isnt a vote for best phish song…its best of 09 and i think the bathtub gin was so much more of an example of them stepping up hard than fluffhead…all they had to do was learn fluff again and rehearse it and boom there you got a pretty good fluff to open hampton, theres no risk in that…gin was a huge risk…they changed directions a lot and brought to the table some really unique stuff…Since ive already heard hampton fluffed like 20 times and heard the significance, I prefer to listen to most other fluffheads from the year namely the two i see live, darien and albany, which i both thought musically were much better than hampton…I’m just confused is all and I guess I was a little harsh with my confusion but I just would of thought for phishheads that I respect like you guys on the board, this woulda be a no brainer for gin…If I didnt know that much about phish I would probably think hampton fluffhead was wayyy better than gorge gin…thats the only reason why I said some of the things I said but I guess I can see how I conveyed my point in somewhat of a negative light

What exactly is a “real phishhead”, and why do all of their opinions have to be the same?

:eh:

This guy is a real Phishhead:

(seriously! I searched google images for phishhead and he’s the first thing that came up!)

I had a lil “re-listen” to one of these last night, and I changed my vote :sunglasses: :ugeek:

a real phishhead is somebody who has REALLY listened to a lot phish from different years and understands the dynamics of the repetoire, the meaning and value of the different types of jams in different places and the significance of the songs (ie a real phishhead would probably be more enthused to hear a mcrgupp at a show than a bouncing around the room)…a real phishead has little to do with how many shows you’ve seen or which shows you’ve seen or how much you worship the band…its about how well you understand the bands music and how its developed over their career, all though having seen more shows obviously helps this…so yes I think there is such thing as a “real phishhead” and no I don’t think all their opinions are the same but I definitly think there is usually a more likely opinion and in this case I thought it was 100% that gin should take the cake…to conclude, this whole idea of “real phishheads” is just my opinion and y’all dont have to run with it, its definitly not gonna affect your life if I have this self-constructed view…good luck to both fluff and gin, but its pretty obvious camden sand is gonna take this in the end

I want to become a real phish head…

This all sounds like Fluffhead to me.

They stopped playing the song for years because they forgot how to play it, because they had stopped practicing. Then they come back at Hampton and everyone’s expectations were hopeful, but cautious. Then they played Fluffhead, an incredibly hard and technical song that fans demanded rabidly for years, and it pretty much soared. The Gin soared as well and they’re both great, but as far as meaning, y’all know what my vote is. I get chills EVERY time I hear it. I wish I could have been there…
