RD7: Sand(Camden) VS BathtubGin(Gorge)

Camden and Gorge 1 are probably (PROBABLY) my favorite two shows of the summer. Sand was so awesome because it just kept building and building, something that hadn’t really happened at all in '09 up until that point. Gin was just musically perfect; it was more of a journey than a build. Both shows (songs) were amazing all the way through but had completely different vibes; Camden was just pure energy the whole show long. You just wanted to jump off the lawn and into outer space. Gorge had a sort of “planets aligning” vibe. I kept asking myself the whole weekend, “Could this get anymore perfect?”

So it is a tough call. The way I see it, it all depends on what you like about jamz. The groove or the exploration. (Not saying that Sand wasn’t exploratory, but there were many more chances taken in Gin. [see Fishman]) I think I have to give the slight edge to Gin considering every factor that entered my mind at both shows.

I just love the last 3-4 minutes of that Gin before it drops into Hood. I remember looking at my buddy, who was experiencing his first show, and saying something like “That stage is going to blast off right into outer space”…he turns to me and says “I swear Dev, I was just going to say the exact same thing to you”…And I’m sure we weren’t the only two thinking that. I was never so certain in my life that Mike Gordon was not born on the planet earth, and that this was how we were all going to find that out.

The 46 Days from MPP was STILL better.

^ yes that would be the ideal final. Sand v 46

With Sand winning!

Why I oughtta!

Sand. That’s all.

i’m just glad hampton fluff lost. I understand the sentiment behind it, but did phish do nothing better on stage in 09 than just be there? I’m of the opinion that hampton was a good start but the band created much more memorable jams like both featured in this round. And if will had to rig it for fluff to lose, so be it

If you really want to pick hairs about this poll, I find it quite odd that none of the miami jams made it in this tourney as any of the big jams in miami were the best of the year. And that Ghost is def better than Albany . But its a democracy, and i’m just enjoying playing along. This is a good way to see what everyone’s varied (by varied I mean wrong  ) opinions are on what phish has done this year.

couldn’t agree more.

There was a ton of Miami, it just didn’t make it to the final rounds.

I’ve seen a few shows, and that was up there with one of the best things I’ve witnessed and been a part of.

Just sayin’…

Oh, and I completely agree about the Miami Ghost and several other moments in Miami, I guess that just wasn’t the opinion of the OKP masses

I feel like we might have had this conversation…one…or seven times…

If this contest started yesterday the Miami songs may have gotten more attention as the recordings became more engrained. That being said the best 1 song ineas them perform last year was the Sand at Camden!

yeah thats what I’m saying. I think they deserved to make it to the later rounds. bigb makes my point better than I do, if the Miami jams were more engrained in peoples skulls they would’ve survived longer cuz miami was tighhtttt.

I went with Gin on this one, Sand was really close for me though…

I still think Red Rocks Tweez and Miami BOTT were the best Jams to my ears this year…Miami Ghost is right up there as well (Hell, Miami Tweez should be up there too)…

I think we can all agree that 2009 was pretty damn awesome compared to PH and the Breakup Hiatus…

I went with Sand. So glad to see that jam still in the running, as it is definitely my favorite jam of 2009.

looks like Gin is going down

Before this all ends, I just want to throw a special thank you to Will for making this happens… for the Willman!

I listened to this “Sand” the other day.

Am I the only one that wasn’t completely blown away by it? I mean, it’s good…but I wasn’t like “OH SHIT!”

:eh:

I was more partial towards Cobo 46 Days myself.
