Re: so I have 1 show to start with...

haha ya as i download more i keep adding them … i figure editing the post is better than making multi post on the same topic or even adding useless replies to my own topic

you want a BnP? send me discs…shoot me a p.m. for da address…

ok, a couple things…

Livephish releases are not trade-able.

Also, its ok to get shows from nugs if they are only for personal use…DO NOT TRADE MP3 SOURCED SHOWS. To serious tapers this is considered polluting the trading community.

I don’t mean to come off as a dick, but rules is rules.

Good Luck.

couldnt i just say hey this is Mp3 formap so the serious ones can just skip over it or something

and i got the 08-11-2004 - Tweeter Center - Mansfield, MA show from a torrent site not off of livephish i just used that to link for more info on that show

ok…If you got it off a torrent site, chances are there is source info there. Link to that so people know what they are trading for.

You could trade mp3 shows like that, but I say why bother when you could get better sourced shows very easily. Neck and I are willing to do a B+P with you, so that could get you started in the right direction.

Let me also mention (for all the newbs out there) NEVER burn on the fly. Use EAC to extract your files. much information is lost when burning on the fly. Thats what causes the blips and skips and loss of sound quality.

not trying to start a shitstorm here, BUT i think the whole trading thing shouldnt be so complicated with all these unwritten rules and crazy lingo and stuff…i say as long as its a live show and its not being sold illegally, it should be perfectly tradable whether it be mp3, flac shn, whatever…

…nobody’s trying to pollute the “system” with mp3 or whatever…i dont even know why that is anyway. But this is just my opinion and could be wrong on plenty of this shit. But if we’re not selling shit to each other its should be cool. We’re all just trying to build a small library and listen to some music and we can’t do that if we’re constantly getting hassled about the source and formats and stuff.

anyway, thats all i got to say…fire away

i always liked you icculus…thanks for backing me up

so why cant i trade livephish releases?

The band always allowed AUD recordings and only asked in return that we not trade what they release from their soundboard archives. It is important to respect this because the band has been nice enough to allow us to freely trade their music. It would be a betrayal to steal from such a generous band. Especially when so much is available.

Ehhh… You can find a lot of SBDs out there… There is no need I think to trade the ones they sell. Just look at etree… There is always atleast one new Phish SBD, and plenty of AUDs everyday. Just my two cents.

The whole NAZI-anal-sonic-perfection-audiophile-follow rules-keep it pure-sonic critisizing PHISH TRADING community is a fucking joke. KEEP IT PURE. Yeah, fucking right. Your source isn’t that pure, buddy!!!
Keep a crappy FOB source pure? Keep a third generation cassette tape DUB from a second generation DAT to FLAC pure… right…
The further time progresses, the more these sources become polluted. I understand the concept and the noble idea contained therein, but to TRY to keep a million collectors in check is a cosmic joke.
I have a ton of shows I have kept by my old psychedelic band from the 80 for nostaligic as well as family history purposes. We decieded recently to update the SOURCE tapes (old VHS digital and cassettes) to a datbase for future safe keeping. We polluted out source right there, but how else could we keep OLD magnetic tape from deteriorating? We had to do something. Luckily, there are great software options today to upgrade these sources. In the future, the possiblities will be endless. Sound production is always marching forward.

KEEP IT PURE…yeah. I have a sound engineering degree, still produce music, and am a collector.
If your really think there is THAT MUCH of a difference between FLAC to WAV source decoding, and FLAC to MP3 decoding, you need to get a degree in music engineering. You have a good ear and spend WAAAAY too much time worrying about something that matters to VERY FEW people. Or worrying about equalization issues. Or start running sound for bands…

It’s just LIVE music SOURCE MATERIAL, people…

high praises vernixx…new respect

PEACE

i personally try to keep 2 copies of each show one in mp3 format for my mp3 player and one in shn/flac for trading hey you cant go wrong with that

^ I also do that. I always keep two copies of shows in case my CD goes crap from constant listens. SHN or FLAC…and the old MP3! ;D

insert rolling eye emoticon

if you guys really believe that…good luck with your trading.

Yeah…monkey man. You obviously have too much time on yer hands worrying about subtle imperfections in a LIVE recording. IT’S A LIVE RECORDING!!! Jeeez…why do you nazi-traders act like it’s a Master recording? I don’t even TRADE anymore. I just B&P for shows I am seeking. AND I DON’T HAVE MANY AUDIENCE SOURCES because I think they’re inferior in sound quality… I am a soundboard collector, which means many of my shows are 4th & 5th generation and STILL sound good.

And I’ve been trading Phish since 1993…trading Dead since 1986…how long have you been at it, Newb? My guess is not that long. Good luck on your quest to keep sources pure…

you just called me a newb

I dunno, Im thinking this where I am supposed to roll thru the tours I’ve done, the bands I’ve seen, the venues ive been to and site the # of years Ive been trading…but I could be wrong.

But to answer your question…I’ve been trading long enough to know trading ettiquette.

I think after scanning over lists and people’s rules, I generally have an idea of what is acceptable.

I am a collector and an avid listener of music. 99.9% of the hundreds of people that I trade/vine with over the course of each year also fall into this category.

I think the fact that I have thousands of hours of live music indicates that I am exprerienced and knowledgable with my hobby.

Theres a reason why I recieve dozens of emails from people inquiring about trades, each week.

Just as there is a reason why people who collect shwag quality have only a few shows…

I never stated this is the way it must be…I only stated that trading mp3 shows, or shows with false lineage is a sure-fire way to get put on the bad trade brigade list.

I also stated that shows should be extracted, via EAC. this should be common knowledge ( and you call me a newb  )

im gonna go enjoy some of my high quality music off my very extensive list now.

Ironically, I just recieved this private message at livephish.org :

I was looking at your etree database to see if you had a couple Phish shows I’ve been searching for. Some of these are 7-25-03, 8-2-03 (including the Tower Set), and 8-3-03. So, I’m wondering if you wouldn’t mind setting up a B&P for these. I attempted a trade for the 7-25-03 Charlotte, NC show sometime last year… I got the show in the mail, and the entire first set is chalk full of pops and skips."

those “pops” and “skips” are from burning on the fly. The files were not extracted before burning, leaving much data behind and creating a shitty copy.

but what do I know, im a newb

Is this your list?

http://db.etree.org/jbyrd

You sure do rate your shows and audio sources pretty damn highly! Everything with an A or A+…really?

Sorry about the newb comment, but you clearly haven’t been at it as long as me. But you got a decent list going. 195 hours isn’t bad…and you got some damn fine Panic shows.
Peace…

that is NOT my list.

db.etree.org/vocalcunt <<<<that is my list. I have been at it since the early 90’s.

I don’t know whose list that is or where is came from.
