Reba: 07-16-1998 vs. 07-06-2000

I’m gonna start doing a “versus” series every other day.
I’ll pick two versions of a particular tune.
You listen and vote.
Maybe I’ll seed the winning show.
First up…

Wow man. I hadn’t realized you’d be providing the actual tracks! Obviously you would, cuz you’re augustus, and because it’ll be like other thread serieses of yours(es).

I think I’ll do it. I’ll shove ‘em on my mp3 player & let you know what I think in a few days or somethin’. Sweet, later-period Rebas to compare & contrast. Thanks dude!

This was tough.

I cast my vote for Gorge '98.

Both very nice, but it is '98 for me.

Reba, eh!

'98

This was pretty tough, but I think the 7/6/00 version edges the 7/16/98 version. Both versions nail the composed section. The 7/6/00 rages a bit more at the end and is finished complete with whistling. I also like the fact that this was the show opener. While 7/16/98 is nice it kinda peters out at the end and heads into FEFY. It was actually a good direction to go into with the way the jam was, but not as strong as 7/6/00 in my mind.

My mp3 player don’t do mp4s … I’ll have to wait til I have 40 minutes to sit at my home PC.

I like Reba though, that’s fer sher!

I really like the end jam of the Toronto show, and getting there was a bitch and a half, but the Gorge show takes it with the porno-funk edge!

To me, this is what edged the '98 version. I love porno-funk as much as the next guy, but I love soaring, glorious jams even more.

yah, I love that jam, like i said somewhere else on this board of boards, it really reminded me of the jamming from set 2 of the second day of the Went. Gotta love it!

My guess is that I enjoyed the '98 version more. The were both pretty hot versions, and both of them mesmerized me a little, making it hard to tell what to say. That, and I didn’t really listen intently either. I played each one a few times while I did stuff. But my observation is that generally the 1998 playing was a little more fluid and so I liked that.
