I actually like the whistling became a rarity over the years. It was almost like a band vote of confidence in what they just played: was that powerful enough to warrant whistling or not?
Just wondering what you guys think of the 7.19.03 reba (if you’ve heard it a few times). I haven’t listened to it in a while, but I think it is pretty solid, and a great beginning to an awesome phish show.
^
I’ll keep an eye out for it on www.livephish.com…
The “Reba” from the famous 12.7.97 show should not be overlooked (as well as the “Slave,” which I will argue is the greatest “Slave” ever).
4/9/94 binghamton, ny
is the best. has anyone heard this? there are some great sbds out there of this show.
The 4/3/97 Island Tour version is great, that and “MY SOUL” created a nice wrap up of he first set, something I will always remember
i love reba’s from 94. por ejemplo: 5/27/94:classic reba
I really don’t know as I don’t have many recordings but Reba has alway been up there as a favorite fer sure. I had a friend who always used to rave about 4-27-91 Capitol Theater… tho I’ve never heard it, maybe someone can second that.
I find that 9-14-00 (livephish#3) Reba to be top sheet… hits home everytime.
The Oswego 7/18/99 Reba is pretty good, as is the Lemonwheel '98. Very tasty indeed.
^ Yeah man…Oswego Reba is awesome! the best I’ve heard from '99…even better that the Show version…which is one of the few songs in that set that I wouldn’t call the greatest version of…
I don’t even know if I said this on this thread, but check out the 10/25/95 Reba…amazing hose in that jam…it is so damn breezy too…2nd set opener Reba and they jam it out like it’s a 2nd set opener.
Hard to believe, but the only two shows from '95 I have are NYE and 10/22 @ Chicago
I’ll have to seek out that 10/25 as well as many others! I’ve heard some awesome things about '95, but just don’t have a lot on tape/CD. I’ll hopefully check that Reba out sometime!
I never got too much into this song… I don’t know why. Are they all pretty standard?
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Lemonwheel 8-15-98…so ambient, favorite reba EVER
Okay…NYE '95 has a fucking JAM! That is…wow…did they ever push it far out there…It gets so intense towards the end…but I really can’t believe there isn’t more talk on here about 5/16/95…It BLEW my mind the first time I heard it, but I’ve been forgetting about it…I was just reading about Reba in the companion, and it basically says they are all great but 5/16/95 stands out above the rest…That whole show is amazing…the debut of Spocks Brain (and so many others)…get this show!
Listening to 10/31/94 Reba as I type. This gets REAL good around the 8-10 minute mark… Very spacey.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Oh dear, oh me, oh my. Reba is one of those tunes that, well, are undescribable in words. They are not all “pretty standard” at all! If you actually listen to them dude you’ll notice that it’s pretty obvious. They go WAAAAYYY out there sometimes!
I agree with greg about the IT Reba. I love how in the later versions page and trey are really staggered in that one part yet the counterpoint works perfectly.
i happen to love the 9-14-00 version, trey seems to be playing with such emotion
but neways, 2-20-93, 5-16-95, 12-31-95, 8-9-97, and the IT version are all great rebas
This is real ironic cause I just stumbled on this topic and was listening to the Island Tour Reba and read the post from someone who said he doesnt like it when they bring back the whistle and it was just as they were going into the whistle.
To return on topic.
10/31/94- Listen to it now.
8/15/98- Underrated in my opinion.
8/2/03- Very good climaxes.
4/3/98- Now I know trey botches the composed part but I think he makes up for it.
12/31/95- Once again a botched composed part but trey makes up for it even better then the Island Tour version. HOTTTTT.
2/20/93- Played well in a craaazy show.
Island tour and IT - IT rocks, I love watching that song, and watching Fish. I think Reba is one of if not the most complicated and difficult drum parts of any of their songs. Check it out…
