What no one on this one yet
come on such a great opener
I mean it set the tone for Vegas 2000 if I remember correctly (oh I think I talk the Vegas too much but…)
You really can’t go wrong with rift, very tight composition, very good
one of the greatest songs ever imo
Very unique song. This is one of my favorite non-jamming songs.
If played right, this song is great.
I love this song, I didn’t own the album so I bought just this song off of Itunes and it made me buy the rest.
What are some good years for this song? I only have a few versions of it. All are decent though.
I do believe there are a lot of tasty 2001>Rift’s during '93.
Can’t go wrong with that!
from what i remember, the Landover, MD '95 version was played without a hitch.

i was soooo happy to hear this at SPAC 04, my fd ross called it the whole day before the show as the opener, and low and behold, they fuckin opened with it!!! def a highlight of my phish experiences.
If they played Rift sloppy and/or slow, it was pretty ugly.
Was Trey fucked up on the 06-20-04? Hahaha sure sounds like it.
Or was it Fishman? or both?
Damn I heard the origianl version of Rift tonight for the first time. I was listening to the 4/20/90 show and man was it bad. They made some really good changes to this song. It’s borderline unlistenable. It has the lyrics, but sounds almost like a completely different song.
I love this song too, but it’s funny how this song and the Wedge started off so different to what they sound like now.
I am currently obsessed with this song.
favorite non-jammin song, obviouslyyyy
Brilliant piece of song writing and really unique lyrics. Thank you Tom Marshall. As long as I’ve listened to music I’ve always been captivated by songs where the singers alternate lines. I sing the Page lines in the car. It sounds like a demanding song to play. Must be why it was only played once in 1997
. I really hope I get one this summer…and they practice it a little more
. Worcester was kinda ugly.
Wild song, I absolutely love Rift. There’s lyrics in the CD booklet that aren’t in the tune - somethin like:
“and so fell the weight we never can lift/behind us the darkness, between us the rift”
anyone else ever notice the line “as if she were the last one she thought i’d betray”… “I’D BE TREY”…???

lol, I was just saying ^this.
“she thought I’d be Trey”??! You ARE Trey!!
I’ve been chuckling about this for a while; hasn’t got old yet.
I wanna yell that out from the front row sometime. “But you ARE Trey!!”

What an amazing song though, how does one express?! And the song itself never gets old neither.
