We do do a free obituary service where I cut down the full obituaries families send us, to fit our guidelines.
What are your guidelines?
I don’t think I have ever experienced that… longer ones just cost more.
John Doe
Albuquerque
Died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at age 74 in a wormhole.
Survivors: (we only list names and immediate family. no grandchildren, grandparents, half-brothers, etc. And we only list names, not towns)
Services: (Basic service info, burial included, funeral home name)
and thats the format for our free obits
and then paid obits, you can run a picture and have basically whatever you want in there. 45 cents a word I think. 100 dollar minimum.
Ahhh… I misunderstood.
I thought you would take a paid one, and cut it down for free.
Gotcha now… I don’t think this area offers that service.
Not to get too off task here.
Just wanted to pass along my condolences his family on his passing. Weird though, I was reading that we was getting better after he had to be resubmitted the hospital. That sucks.
I was huge into Dave for a long time, and he could play the shit out of the winds. He just seemed like a “bad mo-fo”.
Wonder what the band is going to do from here. I still can’t believe they played the same night he passes. Some brass balls there. I don’t think that I would have been able to go on that night. I read somewhere that when they played a song for him, both Stephan (bass) and Carter (GREAT drums) were crying and it just sent a wave throughout the crowd. Must have been surreal at that moment.
Anyway, always sucks to lose a great musicain like Leroi…RIP…
Leroi Moore apparently. man even though i haven’t listened to DMB in years, and even when i did it was nothing special to me, this is really sad and shocking. RIP, man.
LEROI MOORE (1961-2008) 08.20.08
When Phish played Virginia Beach in 1997, LeRoi came on stage and started playing three saxophones at once and set off the most hilarious chain of events. Within minutes, Page was playing four of his keyboards with his hands and feet. I had three guitars on and drumsticks in my hand banging on Fish’s drums, and Mike was playing two basses. It was just a phenomenal moment! And I remember LeRoi laughing with his mouth full of saxophones.
We miss you LeRoi and thank you for the joy you brought all of us.

So last night I went down to good ole Staples Center with my fiance to go see my old friend Dave Mathews, we met in Vegas in 95 when he opened for the Grateful Dead, been a fan ever since, anyway I go down there and get 75 dollar tickets for 50 bucks, sweet. First person I saw when I jumped out of the car in the parking lot was a Phish Phan, we exchanged smiles and high fives as I was wearing a Phish shirt as well. I was getting a good feeling until I went into the venue and heard about Leroi, the news just broke minutes before the show was about to start. It was a poignant and pretty, hearfelt show. Proudest Monkey, Bartender, the Maker. etc…All of the members looked very shaken…Sad, this was probably my 15th Dave show in 13 yrs, I’ve never seen him look so glum…
RIP Leroi…You will be missed…Definitely grooved to more than a few solos.
It’s insane that they went on and played. I know the adage that “he would have wanted them to” and all, but still…
…Phish would’ve canceled an entire tour if one of their members was injured or died, right?
Or is that apples to oranges?
^ I thought it was insane as well
It’s really more like GMO apples vs Organic apples, the GMO being Dave
They already had replacements for this tour to my surprise, I guess Leroi was in recovery at the start of this tour as it was…
Well that’s true, it’s not like it was sudden, he was injured a few months ago.
But still. Damn. Maybe they played Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” beforehand.
he was injured months ago? damn, what happened? did he break his neck or something? i figured he got hurt very recently and died from his injuries, but if he’d been in recovery for months…i’m just trying to figure out what caused him to actually die after so long.
atv accident, busted a rib and punctured a lung i believe
Moore was an insane sax player among many other instruments. I think he was the best part of DMB live. Trey was good friends with him too. What a loss
Wow. That’s crazy. I wonder if he just gave up, knowing that he wouldn’t be playing much more saxophone with a punctured lung. That’s very sad to me. I know I wouldn’t be very willing to keep fighting if I lost my ability to play my saxophone. God forbid that ever happens. Makes me want to quit smoking cigs…
RIP Mr. Moore.
Terrible news. He was a great guy and a great musician.
Rest in peace L
wow, that’s so strange to me. punctured lungs can and do heal perfectly well. crazy.
True…maybe he had some nasty infection or something. “Complications” can be a lot of things.
Man, I’m glad I finally saw these guys for the first time a few months ago. LeRoi was tearing it up at that show. Him and violin guy are really the keys to most of the sweet DMB jams that I remember. What a bummer…
I have this strange habit of seeing people for the first time before they die. I saw DMB for the first time before LeRoi died. I saw the Who for the first time soon before Entwistle died. I also saw James Brown for the first time soon before he died. Heck, I was on top of the World Trade Center a month before it went down. I think I’m cursed…
