Wow. I just heard that Richard Wright from Pink Floyd died from cancer at the age of 65. That sucks. Cancer sucks.
RIP
He and I shared the same birthday.

Wow, this is absolutely the saddest news I’ve heard in a long, long time. I really loved Wright’s musical talent and his contribution to the texture and feel of so many classic Floyd songs is individual genius.
So long Richard. Thanks for so many hours of pure bliss.

NO!!! Say it ain’t so. Wowza…I definately did not see that one coming.
So, I guess I’ll never get to see the Floyd live.
Horrible news.
Sad news indeed…
Fuckin cancer SUCKS!!!
A damn shame. A master of some vivid sounds still beyond today’s musicians and their “futuristic” technologies.
I actually had the song “Money” stuck in my head when i stumbled across this headline.
So sad to just hear about his passing. I’ve always been a fan of the songs he wrote and sang for the band; they were direct yet contained such melancholy beauty and depth:
Paintbox
Remember A Day
Summer '68
Stay
and more…
As well as his superb work on the keys… RIP Rick.

Awww crap. This is the first I’ve heard of this. I think one of the first things that showed me how truly an ego-maniac Roger Waters is was when he kicked Richard out of the band. Roger’s synthasizers and keyboards was SO much of what that band was yet he rarely got the recognition. So much for a final reunion tour with Richard, David and Nick…

I thought Wright quit because he hated Waters, as opposed to Waters kicking Wright out of the band.
Waters totally kicked him out, although it’s confusing because he was sorta asked to leave.
I read that Waters threatened to withhold the entire Wall album (which they were in the middle of recording) if Wright didn’t leave the band.
Then, they kept him on as a salaried player on the short but intensely expensive tour of that album in '81. The three guys that were still members all lost money on the tour, but Rick got his salary.
I guess he had zero involvement with the Final Cut LP, but was back to being salary guy by '87, and full time band member again by '88.
