“To commemorate the 30-year anniversary of this cosmic convergence of sound and sphinx, Grateful Dead Productions and Rhino will release ROCKING THE CRADLE: EGYPT 1978, a collection of highlights from this historic three-night stand. The 2-CD/1-DVD set will be available September 30 at regular retail outlets and www.dead.net for a suggested list price of $34.98. Fans who pre-order the set from Dead.net will receive an exclusive eight-song bonus disc that includes additional unreleased performances from the Egypt run. A digital version that includes all the CD content will also be available.”

Debbie Downer: Not a fan of these shows…

But oh well, nice to see more coming from the GD vaults.

I’m disappointed in you, Will. I was expecting a picture…

I think a 2 CD set for 3 nights shows you how many “highlights” there were.

yeah, these shows suck. it’s evident that the people over at rhino don’t know anything about the shows in the GD vault.

I heard a tape of some of this stuff on my way to Rothbury, and I must agree they didn’t tickle my fancy too much.

the one jam I particularly remember was way too spacey and quirky…there were practically no drums, just random weird clanking sounds and nothing significant happening. and the standard songs weren’t really anything special either.

lol, I know that description sounds dumb, but it was the impression I got.

jerry went on letterman and ripped these shows, saying that they didn’t play well at all. Why would they release this?

Just because of the epicness of the place. I remember watching that Letterman on Youtube. He said they always fucked up the big shows. haha

But I read they just had a blast, and that you could see all these desert folk on camels stretching out forever out into the desert, and it was quite strange. i’m sure that was an amazing place to trip and hear the Dead. I like the idea of a DVD, just to see it, but not as a full show release, because of the under-par music. Should be an interesting watch. I’ve always tried to imagine what it looked like out there. Does anyone have any pictures of it?

Wow, thanks!
