Run Like An Antelope

my favorite Phish song.

the studio version just came on the old iTunes shuffle.

i forgot how smooth it was compared to live versions.

My favorite song, as well. Some versions I have been listening to lately:

5/23/00 - The middle jam section could stand alone as a straight Jazz composition…it never gets crazy like some antelopes but it is just smooth from start to finish.

12/31/98 - Probably my favorite.

Lemonwheel - check the part about 5 or 6 minutes in when Trey starts this little ascending jam and Page adds the perfect piano accompaniment . Awesome.

The studio version IS pretty good! I put that on at the bar one night, and I really liked it. Its interesting to hear such a polished version, when live versions tend to be a little more free-wheeling and experiemental. 12.29.97 is a great antelope!

Many of the 98 Antelopes are nuts.

word.

Best Phish song to exercize to EVER. For all the obvious reasons.

In my mind, it is quite simply the best Phish song ever.

03/13/92
08/14/93
06/11/94
12/06/97
10/30/98
07/23/03 (mainly for personal reasons, but this version is some serious straight in your face rock n roll)

… and the list could go on and on.

Yeah this might be my favorite Phish song. It is also one of the only songs I can’t pick my favorite version of. I love the Island tour one. I think my two favorite years for this song are 98 and 95. Although 93 and 94 were great also.

Just listened to the 2/15/03 version and realized it was the first post-hiatus one I had heard. Pretty standard version, which of course means rockin.

So. I haven’t posted in a while (not that anyone would notice), however, 11/02/96 Antelope just made me want to. I don’t even really have anything to say except, RUN LIKE AN ANTELOPE OUT OF CONTROL!

…and also, I should quit drinking for tonight.

Anybody heard the summer 04 Tube -> Antelope??

12/30/1999 - Day One of Big Cypress…Set 3
I was sitting here listening and it just sounded like the typical Phish Antelope jam. At about 11:55 the jam part ended and it went into the Marco Esquandolas part. My attention was instantly directed back to the music, and the next 4 minutes were Phish heaven. It is the best Antelope ending that I have ever heard.

I was there, and it was my first, last, and only versions of “Tube” and “Antelope.” I was incredibly stoked to hear the first notes of “Tube” ring out!! I remember during the jam/ending of “Antelope” the skies got real, real dark over DC and I was praying it wouldn’t cut loose. Somehow, it didn’t.

:sunglasses:

i saw 2 Antelopes: Miami and Coventry

they were both sick as hell

yes, the Antelope at Coventry was insane.

i always liked this song! At the Clifford Ball after the 2nd night i almost had a heart attack laughing when my friend Aaron started singing Run like an asshole into the hills.

uhhhh Run Like An Antelope-> Catapult 03-02-97 I

FUcking Amazing!

Weird, I was the last one to post on this tune and here I am again with an amazing, probably one of my new favorite versions of this song from 06-01-90…something bout this jam just fuckin’ blew my mind!

was this ever played live, like, in concert?

Once, in the mid-80s I think.

It has acheived near-mythical status. Like “Destiny Unbound.”

The Antelope from 8/9/98, the VA Beach Terrapin show, was setting up to be one of the all time killer versions of this song until Fish or Mike, it’s hard to tell, missed the big stop at the end of the jam. They were really tearing it up so hard, and got so lost in it that no one could blame them for not knowing which way was up when it came time to stop.

We tend to forget at times how strenuously these guys played in the middle of these jams. I remember watching Mike nearly fall over at the end of a pretty hard played Bowie at Radio City Music Hall in 2000. They finished on a dime and Mike kind of reeled backward and I thought he was going right into the speaker behind him.
