I saw American Gangster the other night.
I thought it was a great movie.
Reminded me a lot of Blow.
Denzel is a bad ass.
A little long and drawn out.
But good nonetheless

sounds good! it’ll give me a good excuse to take a road trip to the beautiful northeast as well.
where ya goin?
funspot.
huh?
oh, new hampshire.
Right turn, Clyde.
I watched “The Darjeeling Limited” earlier this week. While I enjoyed the movie it was not quite up to snuff with Wes Anderson’s other films. It seemed like a rehash of “Bottle Rockets”, his first film. I don’t think I laughed out loud but once. Nice acting, nice scenery, nice set production, weak story line. He didn’t seem push the envelope in this flim… story telling on auto pilot. Oh well it was still a nice film. Maybe I need to watch it a few more times to give it a chance to grow on me. “The Life Aquatic” is still his best imo.
Saw: Be Kind Rewind
I thought it was pretty good. Very weird, but funny.
A little slow at the beginning, but picked up the pace after.
The sweded films they do are great.
I hope they release those.
Saw: No Country for Old Men
Such a Great film.
Saw: The Other Boylan Girl
Had to see it because it as my girl’s choice this time.
Hey, at least Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johanson were in it.
Good historical drama, nothing fantastic really.
i’ve been inundating myself with all these horribly scary movies the last week or so.
Shutter
A tale of Two Sisters
Silent Hill
i’m done. hell i’ve been fairly nervous and depressed for the last two days because of these things.
tonight it’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High. classic.
just saw U2-3D at the IMAX.
it was actually really good…if you can learn to take Bono with a grain of salt.
the music was seriously good though, probably the best U2 i’ve heard but Bono’s stage antics make it a little hard to take seriously though. You know what i mean? They’ll be doing really good and then he’ll pull some move that you cant help but laugh at.
But some of it looks really cool and the music is just incredible.
thumbs up.
Watched “Darjeeling” this weekend. It may not have been his best, but I certainly laughed and enjoyed it. Anderson gives a great look to his movies, and this was no exception. I expect the quirkiness of Schwartzman and Wilson, but I think some of Adrian Brody’s expressions and lines were the highlight for me. It’s all much better than standard Hollywood drivel.
“Can we have our snake back?”

Sure is better than the standard drivel. I enjoyed Brody’s performance. The movie lacked something tho… just can’t put my finger on it. I can accept that perhaps I missing the genius behind the movie or perhaps missing it’s artistic merits. I found the Owen Wilson’s character to be a bit weak. I found the weirdness with the peacock feather to be a bit ghey. Perhaps it was his point that westerners don’t really “get” eastern spirituality but I still found it silly rather than intriguing.
idk. I’m still thinking about this film. The familial elements were there and thru their journey they located their bond… but it felt so predictable. Maybe that’s what the movies problem was, its was woodenly predictable.
The brothers were petty, quarrelsome, fickle… always exchanging the belt or looking for parental approval, even in death… those were fun elements. There was the little horndog getting it on the train, that was a fun element. Maybe I’m just expectin the film to be like Steve Zissou when I need to look at it in its own light. There were plenty of fun elements to the film. It did get kinda slow and serious when they went to the village with the boy.
Anyway I’ll still probably end up owning it. I love the cadence and flow of his movies and the colorful train with the Indian characters and countryside were nice.
Perhaps Anderson forced the creative process. I wonder what his state of mind was while making this film. Anyway I hope he continues making many more films. I’m no movie connoisseur but he is my favorite film maker out there… besides George of course.
Watched Away From Her, the movie Julie Christie was nominated for this year. She was pretty good, but not overly great. The movie itself was OK, but depressing since it dealt with an elderly couple dealing with her altzheimers disease.
Also watched The Martian Child with John Cusack. Generally like anything with Cusack and this was no different. Low key story with not a lot of action, mostly about parents and children relating to one another.
Went to see Semi-Pro this weekend.
Although it was pretty funny, it was nowhere near as good as Anchorman, or many other Will Ferrel movies. Although it was much better than Talledaga Nights. It was typical Will Ferrel being an idiot, but I like that kind of thing. I know that this schtick might be getting old, but still funny. There were a handful of times that I was laughing out loud, so I consider it a success. Although I would not spend another $9.50 on this, I woud reccomend it as a matinee.
Until next time, the balcony is closed.
Bonz,
I think you nailed it when you said you expected it to be something else. Comparison is certainly fair, but I think his movies are best viewed on their own merit, not of things that have come before.
I get what you’re saying about predictability-- I called who Brody(Peter) used his phone call at the airport for-- but I don’t think that ruined it for me.
Anderson’s stuff is like teh Phish, even the stuff you like less is better than all that other crap.

This is true. Watching “Darjeeling” got me in the mood to watch Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. Bottle Rocket is a genius little comedy isn’t it. I’d like to own all his films on dvd.
i just watched Rushmore a couple weeks ago. such a great movie.

see how i did that? rushmore? anderson? teh phish? eh? eh?
Wait. Teddy Roosevelt is holding a dog on the monument?
I can’t see behind Trey’s head…
Picked up Rendition a few weeks back. Finally watched it the other day and I enjoyed it. Pretty intense movie with a good cast. It’s fucked up to think that this kinda thing goes on.
Caught about 1/2 of this movie the other night. Enjoyed what I saw, but then fell asleep. I’d love to see it in its entirety.

watched The Mist last night, I enjoyed it… They could have done better with the ending, i imagine there are a few alternate endings, i’d like to see those once the dvd comes out
semi pro was ok
dajeeling limited - Ehh… I really thought this was going to be better than it was, still was decent, but i had high hopes
FINALLY saw No Country for Old Men. really good. it seems the Cohens can really do no wrong. i will have to purchace all their films. i think i only have Fargo and Raising Arizona. oh yeah, and Lebowski. but i’m not even sure if i have Fargo. i should check.
