:patiently waiting for phishinsky’s review of Avatar:
Did I read somewhere that Avatar is the most expensive movie ever made? And at the time Titanic also held that distinction? Geez, James Cameron loves to go all out…
yeah 500mill, i read that james cam shelled out almost half the movie cost out of his own pocket.
^
It was worth it, saw Avatar last night pretty baddass. Cool battles, pretty good storyline you could get into, overall a good flick. Also heared he put close to 15 years of work for the movie, DAMMMMNN.
Avatar just rubs me the wrong way for some reason…too much CGI in any movie seems to annoy me. I mean…I want to PLAY video games…not watch them. Besides, aside from Terminator 2, I haven’t been too thrilled with most James Cameron movies.
Plus I still can’t get over that South Park episode where it was implied that Cameron just ripped off his Smurfs movie with Avatar. Hilarious.
Well my sister and I did our typical ‘Xmas movie marathon’ today. Started off with Avatar 3D, which was pretty good, we both thought. Action, Romance, CG, Moral Values… it pretty much has all those elements. For a long (almost 3hrs) movie it didn’t really feel that way at all. The ‘3D-ness’ was nice but not essential to the movie.
Afterwards we started watching Nine but it was so bad that we actually left after about 20mins into the film. Despite having big name actors like Daniel Day Lewis, Dane Judy Dench, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Sofia Loren and even Fergie, this one just felt like a depressing Moulin Rouge / Chicago wannabe.
Third up is Sherlock Holmes, which is exactly what you’d expect from the preview: Robert Downing Jr and Jude Law as the mystery-solving pair, which some good action scenes and excellent acting. I recommend this one.
Overall I’d say if you’re curious about Avatar to go check it out. Sorry to disagree with you, El Bastarde, but I liked it the best out of the 3 films. It was no T2, but was still quite good in my book. $10 well spent for me.
saw avatar last night. it was good. and exciting. but i would not go pay theater costs. im glad i didnt go to an imax
^ I kinda agree. Saw it last night too. Loved the CGI. Thought it was visually gorgeous.
Should have gone to see Sherlock Holmes ![]()
yeah i thougth that to. Robert Downey Jr. is a damn good actor for certain roles. (u.s marshals, iron man, tropic thunder). he plays a seemingly well good drunken, arrogant/cocky, prickish <which adds some good side humor for him, kind of guy. which im hoping will be the kind of persona for sherlock.
See that’s what I thought too! When I first saw the previews for this, my first thought was, “Robert Downey Jr.? He’ll play this like a complete badass!”
I think our thoughts are more or less spot on. Can’t wait to check this out!
Loved It!!!

inglourious basterds IS AMAZING!
amy and i, well I watched crank 2. no where near as good as the first. but it was a non stop action flick, with all the original characters.
also, we both watched The Ugly Truth.
it was alright, had its funny parts in it, i would def check it out.

I saw Avatar on Saturday with my family at an Imax; it was good (not amazing) but I dont recommend anyone else shell out the money to do so (I’m just happy that my parents paid). those 3d glasses gave me an awful headache within the first 5 minutes, but if you take them off the screen is really blurry.
also, the movie is way too predictable and linear.
Saw the movie The Road.
The book was brilliant,…the movie was a little slow.
I knew it would be hard to translate this great story into a flick.
Anyway,…its a nice film, but depressing so you need to be in the right frame of mind.
Viggo Mortensen is good,…and there is a great scene with Robert Duval.
I would recommend reading the book first. It really is fantastic.
It won the Pulitzer Prize for a reason.
Saw Sherlock Holmes on Christmas with teh fam…not bad not bad. IT was good, not amazing but kept my interest the whole time. I tend to like Guy Ritchie films too and this one does not dissapoint.
Wanted to see Sherlock on Sunday with our house guests, but got outvoted. We went to see “It’s Complicated” instead. Pleasant enough “chick flik” because I really like Meryl Streep in anything, and she was really good in this movie as well. Alex Baldwin was meh because he always seems to play the same character to me, and it fit into this movie, but who cares. Steve Martin was OK, but looks kind of wierd because I think he’s had some cosmetic procedures done. Actually John Krasinski, Jim from the Office, was a bright spot in a supporting role.
Not a bad rental to have ready if you bring a date home.
Watched the Kings of Leon live DVD I got for Christmas. Absolutely great. Nails all the vocals, never cheats, never flat. All the songs were executed to perfection, and so far there’s not really even a song of theirs I don’t like. Totally recommended. And Caleb kinda looks like Obi-Wan circa Revenge of the Sith, but his lightsaber’s a hollowbody with a headstock on it, and his jedi robes, well, they’re more like cool rock guy stage clothes.
^ Those guys are great.
They came into the restaurant that I was working in right after Youth and Young Manhood was released.
I walk up to the table ready to take their order and I’m like “Woah,…you guys are the Kings of Leon”
KL: “Yes we are”
Me: “You guys are f@#king awesome!”
My manager yelled at me for swearing loud, but they all started laughing.
Talked to them for awhile and their manager put me on the list for their show that night.
Hung out with them before their show at the Double Door here in Chicago.
Asked me if I wanted to be a roadie,…“Uh,…no thanks”.
Kinda shy guys, especially Caleb, but they rip it up when they walk on stage.
Now they are huge,…I wish I kept in touch. I could be working for them.
I’ll have to check out that concert flick.
Thanks for recommendation Hose!
Wow cool story! No problem!
