You wanna review? Here’s my .02
I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t as crazy wonderful as I thought it might be, but I didn’t want to hype it up so much that it lost its sparkle. . . .which it didn’t.
First of all, it is very dark, as are most Tim Burton flicks. I was expecting more humor than there was. On the contrary, it was mostly a very serious film. If you go into the film expecting it to be cartoonish and Disney, then you’d be wrong. It’s not a completely different movie, as all the characters are there plus some. Caterpiller, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Rocking Horse dragonflies, Golf club flamingoes, etc . . .However, it is much more like the Alice sequel, especially towards the end.
Much emphasis is placed on the Jabberwocky, the creature in Lewis Carroll’s second book in the Alice series. In this movie, Alice is the chosen one in Wonderland 10 years after her first journey there. She must kill the horrible creature, controlled by the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). If Alice finishes her job, then the rightful Queen (The White Queen and Anne Hathaway) will take the throne of Wonderland.
The Mad Hatter plays an interesting role. He’s mostly a good guy who helps Alice, but he is merely haunted by his past. One of the reasons why the movie takes a dark turn. Johnny Depp is always reliable to fill that whole dark role. However, as much as I love Johnny Depp, I was most impressed by the girl who played Alice. Not sure what her name is as I am too lazy and stoned at the moment to Google, but she was quite the little actress.
The 3D was alright. The only time I really enjoyed the 3D was at the very beginning with Alice’s first return to Wonderland. Brought all the colors and plants and such to life. Pretty cool. Also, it was nice during the ending sequence with the Jabberwocky. Pretty cool as well. Otherwise, not really worth the 10 or 12 bucks.
Overall, it was a decent movie. I’m glad I saw it. The classic Disney cartoon will always be my favorite, but this one was very well done. Tim Burton will always be one of my favorite filmmakers. Go see it! I don’t think you’ll be dissapointed.
