Is that OK for me to call him a cracker seeing as how he’s white and I’m white? Or is the intended use of the word cracker meant to be as derogatory as the intended use of the word nigger no matter who is using it, and should thus never be used?
It almost sounded like Richards was trying to use the term in an object oriented way at first, but the distinction was never clearly made and people immediately took offense. Then he was deep into it. thought he had to keep it going to try to rescue the joke, and lost control of the way he wanted it to go. Without being able to get inside the man’s head and heart, there is a possibility this was a truly bad joke that got away.
Too bad because it’s a bridge that’s really on fire at the moment, and the image of Kramer as a flaming bigot will be seen by every fan of Seinfled meaning the character will never be the same again. I wonder how this will impact the continued rerunning of the show, especially in some markets?.
I once saw the guy that is known as “The Drake” from Seinfeld perform at a comedy club down in Ft. Lauderdale Fl., and he started to go off on somebody in the audience, not calling them names, but calling them out and stuff, it made everybody very uncomfortable and quite a few people walked out.
Comedy is a weird thing to put on stage, b/c you never quite know the effect a joke will have on somebody, and seeing as how the crowds are so close to the performer it’s quite easy to get mingling between performer and audience which can lead to disastrous results
They will never slow down the syndication of Seinfeld because of something like this. Have they been showing Naked Gun any less frequently since OJ killed his wife? No. Have they stopped playing Chuck Berry on the radio since he peeped on multiple women in the bathroom? No. Is Michael Richards a fucking retard? Yes. Yes he is. But Seinfelds the best show ever, and something like this in no way tarnishes it’s reputation…If Jerry dating a 17 year old didn’t do it, this won’t make any difference whatsoever.
