Site of Many Fond Memories Blown Up Today

The Hoosier Dome (don’t call me RCA Dome) was imploded yesterday morning. It’s quite the site and kinda brings a tear to my eye. I saw numerous Colts games there not to mention the 1997 and 2006 Final Fours. The high point being the AFC Championship game against New England with the amazing comeback that helped to finally vault the Colts to the Super Bowl. I’ll never forget this moment. I can still hear Big Willie Style singing, “Welcome to Miami,” as the Super Bowl was in Miami that year.

I thought some of you might be interested in this. The Hoosier Dome also hosted numerous concerts and other events. Anyone else see anything epic or interesting at the Hoosier Dome?

wow, that was impressive. it always sucks when places you have good memories of gets demolished. why did they do it? was it just too old or something?

i saw my first phish show in this one (charlotte nc) in 1996.

They built a new stadium (Lucas Oil Stadium) that is now home to the Colts. It was the smallest stadium in the NFL and I’m not trying to diss on ownership because I love the owner of the Colts, but at one point he threatened to move the Colts if we didn’t get a new stadium (I think it was more of a bluff and his Dad’s doing). Here’s a fun fact you all might appreciate. Jim Irsay, owner of the Colts, owns a couple of Jerry Garcia’s guitars as well as the original scroll that On the Road was written on by Jack Kerouac. Yeah he’s a chill dude.

Where the Hoosier Dome was will now be an expansion of the Convention Center. Indianapolis is looking at competing with Chicago as one of the biggest markets for conventions.

Hey, at least your city actually gets rid of their old stadiums. The Lions and Tigers both moved and both Tigers Stadium and the Silverdome are still standing there, doing nothing. (Well, Tigers stadium is starting to be torn down but there’s some group who wants some it kept up for posterity or something. Let it go, people).

^ That was pretty sweet Jaw. It’s hilarious that they were lighting off fireworks. I suppose they were glad to get rid of that cookie cutter stadium. Veterans Stadium, Three Rivers and Riverfront were all almost identical stadiums. Wild.

I’ve been to the Big Ketchup Bottle and it’s sweet. I haven’t been to PNC Park, but I hear nothing but good things about it.
