just got back from 6 flags mass and have to say get the flash pass gold, we waited in no lines and never waited more then 10 minutes while cuttng through hour long lines…Admission 30$pp, flash pass 120$ for 4 no lines …Priceless
I hear what you’re saying, but there’s something that really bothers me about the concept. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a tried and true capitalist, I believe it drives people to do good things that they might never have been motivated to do within any other system (and yes, it also drives people to do very bad things as well).
Yet, the socialist within me also believes there needs to be some limits imposed upon capitalism within certain industries, like health care, lawsuits, prescription drugs, energy, education, and sports and entertainment, to name a few.
For instance, I don’t believe in a brokers right to get the most money a ticket will bare for concerts or sporting event. Besides the fact that it drives the lower income levels totally out of the market, why should a “middle man” reap that extra value? Shouldn’t it belong to the performer?
And this paying extra to beat the lines at amusement parks, and it’s not just 6 Flags, they’re all instituting this obvious way to boost profits, is really an insult to those who can’t afford more than the 30 bucks to get in. Line jumping really bothers me, whether you pay for the privilege or not. First come, first serve, with respect for your fellow man, has always seemed the better way.
Shit, I just realize how much I might be insulting your very positive experience. I’m really sorry, it was not my intent, and by rights I shouldn’t post this response, but it’s all about desires, and how as a nation we’re allowing them to get out of control. With information coming at us from all angles, we’re constantly being bombarded with pitches to DO and TRY things all the time, to give in to almost any desire that is presented before us for whatever the price may be, and that ain’t good. Just ask Buddah, he’ll explain it to ya better than I can.
It’s really not that much different then getting box seats at a baseball game, you pay a little more you get a better seat If you pay a less you get a crapier seat I see no problem with putting a premium on something if it provides something that has value to the person purchasing it, I sell 4 pound lobsters in my place for 120$ a whack, not for everybody but if you can swing the bling, its yours the guy that can only afford the 1 pounder is probably jealous but thats just life.
I agree with most of what you said except for this. Im pretty sure that if not all amusement parks have this yet they will soon. It is a very easy way to get extra money and not really drive away costumers or really affect anything else. And I really dont see how it is an insult if you cant afford it, if I dont have the extra money to get it I wont. The only thing that i will be mad at is if these things get out of control and Six Flags or whoever just doesnt limit this and sells as many as it can.
I’m torn on this. Because it is cool to not wait in line, but its not cool to be the guy who’s first in line and they have to be like “Excuse me sir while I open this velvet rope to let this VIP in, you’ll have to wait till the next ride.”
One time at Universal I waiting in the Jurassic Park ride line for hours (The ride had just come out). Me and my cousins were literally first in line for the next boat and then the ride broke down. So they gave us one of these passes to make up for that. It was only supposed to be good for one ride but they never took it back from us. So we rode that shit all day without lines. That was cool, but we earned that pass.
