Snippet

6.24.04 Tube 9:51–>10:15

This is a snippet I pinpointed a long time ago, but I was able to get the timings for it today at work. Now, I agree with Will’s assessment that this Tube is almost painful to listen to. Trey hits so many wrong notes and his tone sounds terrible. “Gritty” music can be good, but this is too gritty.

Anyway, this is the one portion of this jam that really stands out to me. Its all about Page.

How about during Halloween '94 after the whole White Album thing was done when they do the costume contest. That shit that the band lays down as background music is teh funk.

Ah, good!! I had forgotten about that show lately. I think the second set is still amazingly atypical of its period and good on its own.

I both agree and concur with many opf these suggestions. Add to that.

Gin - 7.20.98 (LP17) at 13:58 (after some awesome jamming already) They drop into this sick funk jam that cooks for another 8 or so minutes.

Possum - -11-20-98 at 6:30 Trey starts playing this really sweet ascending chromatic rift that just keeps building and building.

YEM - 02.26.03 at 19:30 The sweetest hand over to the bass and drums segment ever.

The segue from Bowie to Possum on 12.29.97 - First time that made me sit up and look stunned, then rush over to the CD player, rewind and make sure I hadn’t just imagined it.

2-26-97 Carini
3:04-4:00 (end of song)
What a fun band.

/\ Not to nitpick, but the Gin on LivePhish 17 is from 7/29/98.

True, although the “Gin” from 7/20/98 is no slouch itself. It’s actually quite good.

2 show opening, show-stopping “Gin’s” within 9 days of each other!

Agreed!! Neil holdin’ it down on '98, ya’ll.

Set II: “Sweet Jane”

5:55 - 6:35

What an enthralling jam!

The Funk part of Mike’s just before Catapult, between the Catapult and Kung and between Kung and IDK at Memphis 99!

^oh yeah. Deep stuff right there.

another snippet:

Character Zero Halloween ‘96–from about 4:45-5:15. I’ve loved this version since the first time I heard it. Probably my favorite if I had to pick, but this specific segment is particularly rippin’. Mike’s bass line at about 4:50 is spectacular, and Trey is absolutely shredding.

Also Lp17- Harry Hood 9:17 -> 9:46 ONE NOTE! 29 seconds!

^ Excellent choice for a “snippet.” It’s all the mysteries of Phish in 29 seconds. I would think that Trey had that “look” on his face for the full 29 seconds. He has described his playing as listening to the sounds all around him. When I saw him live and up close I thought that he must be listening to sounds from his distant home planet that only he can hear. I sure do like those sounds though.

yeah, that note is long…NOT!!!
why dont you try a nearly 3 MINUTE LONG NOTE!

Harry Hood 11-16-1996 Omaha, NE (10:43 > 13:36) :o :o :o :o

this Hood also contains more LEIGH! FORHDAM! lyrics.
this is a top 20 set of mine.
enjoy!

yeah!

psyche!

extends hand out for hand shake, pulls it back and rubs side of head in cool motion

^^ Thanks for bringing this up and providing the song, A. I had never heard this before. That is a REALLY long note. The crowd keeps going nuts and the jam keeps going up and up and Trey keeps holding the note.

I just read on phish.net that he was dancing around the whole time he was holding the note. Badass. I fucking love Phish, I really don’t say that often enough.

yeah, this show circulates in video.
he’s rocking the fist pump the whole time!

Wow, what a Hood!

Thanks Augustus.

I love how crazy Fish is going off during the note.
