The Chalkdust that’s on that “Live In A Maze” promotional video/popular bootleg … the guitar solo isn’t all that long, but that jam is just a perfect example of Phish to me. Don’t know the date, but it’s summer 92.
Then the other one that comes to mind isn’t necessarily my favorite (neither is that first one), but it’s one of the most recent times I’ve rewound the CD a few times to hear it again. It’s late in the 10-31-94 Divided Sky jam …
I’ll come back here at some point to list the details of both of those.
12/9/97…you’ll review it soon
8.14.93 Tinley Park Jam>Antelope. The whole jam is awesome, and at About 3:20 of the jam is where it starts getting real crazy and then BAM! Back into Antelope. They are so ON! Probably my FAVORITE “snippet” ever. Check it out, I wanna hear what you guys think about it too.
Anybody hear this yet?
Uhm yeah. I own LP7, after all, and that is a hell of a snippet.
Thank you! I was starting to get freaked out, being alone and all.
3-1-97 wolfmans, near the end. trey and mike just read each other so well…that bassline is sick!
my brother and i have a great song. the best snippet is when the lyrics first come in and they say “my mom’s vagina is big”. seriously…grgb.
^drunk.
^liar!
^sorry.

To me, Trey’s arrangement of melodies almost makes it sound like the guitar is crying. In turn, this makes me sad, considering this is the last pre-hiatus show. And most fans were left wondering if Phish would ever come back.
11/18/98 Wolfmans->Lizards. By 98 many people had their fill of Wolfmans, and to be honest, when the band came to the stage and Page started the song with his hits I was like, “oh this again”, but the jam out of Wolfmans has the hose pumping. They come out of the funky mud. Then Trey lifts everyone into the air with some of his signature ascending triads ala “Slave ending” and the crowd holds on for a cool langing into Lizards.
I’d have to go with the Tweezer from 2.28.03 somewhere in the 12 or 13 minute mark. I like how it gradually grows to that part, like Trey starts his riff and thinks “this sounds cool, what if I added this”, then he does it a few more times and the end result is beautiful. I could listen to that everyday and never get tired of it.
Here here. I know a lot of fans hate post-hiatus and think 2/28/03 is WAY overrated and over-discussed, but I’ve probably listened to the Tweezer > Soul Shakedown Party -> David Bowie segment more than any other set/part of a set in Phish’s history.

“GUMBO”
10:32 in, Mike drops a very large bomb. You’ll notice it when you hear it. He was on fire during this jam.

Total wall of sound coming right at you. Everyone is collectively wailing away! I like my Phish as funky as the next person, but this sort of in-your-face jamming I love too.
