^ Thanks! Getting us stoked for Watkins Glen!

I’m Canadian man, but even I don’t do the Hip. I saw them once down at 10,000 Lakes. They were given a late night slot, right after String Cheese, and nothing, I mean nothing, could have been a bigger disappointment. I’ll definitely check out that Allmans stuff though. Thanks.

I’ve seen the Hip 6-7 times and all of the shows that I’ve been to were flat out AMAZING! Maybe you got a bad night or perhaps it’s just not your style but I think they’re great. Anyone expecting them to be a “jam band” will be dissappointed but as a straight rock band they’re fantastic.

^ Yeah, maybe they were just having an off night, but I found it really off-putting how they seemed to be playing down to the crowd. I thought they were being really condescending, not talking at all to the crowd except to drunkely yell “New Orleans is singing…AND I DON’T FUCKING CARE”…which I think he thought was going to get a big round of applause, except it’s like “No one here even knows who you are. Try a bit of humility for chirst sake”.

I’ve had people tell me forever, since I was in grade school, what a great live band the Hip is, and I was willing to give them a chance at 10,000 Lakes. There were maybe only 300-400 people of the 20,000 + people at this festival watching their set, but I figured, this is my chance to check them out. I’m not a huge bluegrass guy so I didn’t feel bad about missing Trampled by Turtles, but watching the first half of that Hip set was enough to make me call it a night.

I don’t mind some of their songs. Little Bones is a pretty good tune, and Nautical Disaster. I mean I don’t change the radio station EVERY time one of their songs comes on, but as a live band, it’s just not my thing.

To each their own. Not everyone is going to enjoy all the music you enjoy. Hope you at least will enjoy The Allman and The Band recordings.

As for The Hip, I have seen them many times in the Western New York area, ranging from the lawn at Darien Lake to third row pit at Artpark, and every single time I am blown away by them. If you have only seen them at 10KFL, I would recomment seeing them at a more intimite setting. They have never dissapointed me and at every show they have interact with the crowd dramatically and Gordie just goes crazy on stage till the point he is just dripping sweat. Can’t wait for them to tour again!

I think seeing the Hip with 300-400 other people at 10KLF is probably as intimate as Hip shows get around here. I remember back in…god must have been 1994-1995 they hosted this touring festival across Canada and the show they played just outside of Regina attracted somewhere in the range of 100,000 people. So yeah…there are no small intimate Hip shows in Canada. But anyway, it’s kind of cool to hear that so many Americans are actually into them, because that is just not the impression I got from seeing them in Minnesota, but maybe they’re a bit more popular up in the North East since they are from Ontario.

I actually have the “officially” released Band at Watkins Glen bootleg on c.d. (or is this longer than 10 or so songs?), and the Dead portion on my hard drive, but I’ll totally check out that Allmans link. Thanks again dawg.

Dude, thanks for Chili’s links!

more non-jambands please!
