SPAC '04

It’s in the top-5 for sure.

The funny part is I actually prefer older women. When my first ex and I started dating, I was 19 and she was 27.

But anyway, this is without a doubt The Piper. However I don’t know about that Tweeprise Jam…it’s definitely not in the same key/has the same chord changes as Tweeprise proper, but it is in that style or vibe of music. Kind of like how people swear they hear ‘Crosseyed and Painless’ in the 4/3/98 Weekapaug but the song itself is not there, just a jam that has the same vibe.

^ I know this isn’t the place to do it, but I disagree about that jam in Weekapaug…It is definately CE&P…they could have started singing it any second…It had more than the vibe, it had the guitar/keyboard/bass/drum parts…basically they were playing the song without the lyrics…

So I guess, Willy and I are the only 2 who haven’t heard either of these shows? I would love to get the SBD off of livephish, but I do not have a credit card, and it would mean someone not getting an x-mas present. One day…just so long as I have every show by the time they get back together I’ll be happy…I’d just hate to think that they would play a song that I’ve not heard yet…ie Destiny Unbound.

Dude, Trey PLAYS Crosseyed and Painless in that Weekapaug… He plays the vocal part on the guitar. You don’t really have to use any imagination to hear it.

The SPAC '04 “Piper” is delicious…I agree with you…I also agree about the “Crosseyed” jam people hear in “Weekapaug” during the Island Tour. It is there, but then again, it is not there. Kind of like a ‘half tease.’ But in any event, I don’t think this “Piper” is definitive enough to label it THE “Piper.” It’s tough to do that with ANY Phish song. Cypress, 12-8-99, Deer Creek 2000, hell, even Live Phish 8 offers fantastic version of “Piper.” It’s not all about the length. There were some damn fine post-hiatus versions too (12-2-03, 2-22-03, etc)

Ghost420 Edit: Rasta you threw that post in before I got mine in…sorry I agree with Greg I think it’s more of a half-tease than full on tease or even jam…

I was there and I have to agree that these shows were special. I know everybody wants to think that their shows are special but that piper jam was something different. I remember at the time I wasn’t sure if I liked the way they were jamming, (trust me I was feeling the energy) but I wasn’t sure simply because I’d never heard them play like that before. Both of these shows were great (I have seen many shows over last 15 years) and although they weren’t consistently great there were a couple of moments that were absolutely transcendent. That buildup in YEM was not the normal buildup. My memory of it is just a blur, like cows and loose stop signs flying through the air and people’s hands up and colors and loudness. It was insane. I vote for the 20th for the second set, but that piper was one of a kind.

^pulling new posters out for this thread demonstrates how great these shows were.

I was really happy that you liked it because - yes - we all know how you felt about post-hiatus phish…

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I saw 27 shows: 20 pre-hiatus; 7 post and 6/19 was the second-best show I saw…easily.

There are just too many great moments from this show to recount: Obviously the massive Piper>Jibboo was the highlight, but you can’t leave out ASIHTOS opener in the 2nd, SASS jam in the first, a funky-ass Wolfman’s, Reba to kick things off and my personal fave…

The absolutely breath-taking Limb By Limb. Usually kind of a throwaway song to me, it launches into an intense jam that really peaks about 12 minutes in…awesome…

I’m listening to 6/19 right now, in the middle of Piper, and all I can say is… actually, I can’t say anything, I’ll get back to you in about a half-hour

Tee he he! Wait til they slowly segue into Jibboo.

I love both these shows and this probably doesn’t need to be said but the only weak link of the entire weekend imo is the Rift opener… dang painful to listen to really… and of course one can only listen to Bill Baily so many times… still stuff like that live is great. How can you not feel good for Pages old man???

I agree with Phish Referee…6-19 is one of the BEST Phish shows I have on disc. I listen to it ALL THE TIME. Easily in my top 3 favourite Phish shows. Right up there with 2-20-93 and 7-11-91 with the Horns!!

Definetely killer. Super duper killer. I wish A Song I Hear the Ocean Sing was played more often. I’m so happy they busted this out at this show. Takes the show another step higher for me. What a mind blowing show!

Because of this thread, I have now heard both shows, so I am ready to make an informed opinion…you ready? 6/20 is a better show. Set 1 is perfect…They haven’t played Rift that tight since '95…and SET 2 is really all I listen to nowadays…That Twist is all I need. I love 6/19, but mostly for the 2nd set, the first set of 6/19 doesn’t really do it fore me the way that SET 1 of 6/20 does…plus that amazing Drowned in 6/20…sick! 6/19 is great because of the ASIHTOS > Piper > Jiboo, but the rest of the set is kind of a letdown…there is not letdown in 6/20…I voted haven’t heard either…but I’m changing my vote to 6/20.

if someone has an extra copy to send me id love it!

That’s weird, because I’ve heard multiple people say that that rift is painful to listen to. I’ve only heard it a few times, but I think their are some flubs–still a great opener though

There are some flubs, but they are reeling off the energy from the night before. Too bad Bill Bailey sucked the life out of the joint for a few songs. That’s my bag for the first set of 6/20.

^ I love the Dr. Jack apperance…I think it brings a lot of joy to the boys.

also best Drowned ever.

yeah I heard that “Drowned” the other day on LivePhish.com. The only one that can come close is NYE '95…or 9-14-00. Don’t knock it just cuz it’s a LP release…it has some 20-odd minutes of experimental shiznit.
