It’s funny really . . .My friend A.J. Niland is the owner Huka Productions, the company that is putting on this festival. He puts on a lot of other shows in the Mobile/Baldwin County/Beach area. Yonder Mountain String Band, Gov’t Mule, Ani Defranco, Dark Star Orchestra, etc . . .and these are just the recent shows. Jam bands have always been his bread and butter.
We had a conversation a little over a month ago about this festival, before it was announced. He told me, “I’m in the middle of trying to get someone that’s going to make you wanna piss yourself.” I knew he already had Ben Harper, Allison Krauss, Gov’t Mule, and Matisyahu on the bill . . . .
I never imagined it was going to be Trey . . .
What’s also funny is that A.J. is also in the middle of a lawsuit with his former business partner and part owner of Huka — my personal friend Elijah Griffiths. Eli’s dad helped he and A.J. invest in this business, and now, A.J. has stolen quite a bit of money from Mr. Griffiths — $50,000 from a Crawfish Festival that A.J. didn’t spit out all the receipts for. Now, a lot of this money has dissapeared . . . .
I say all this to prepare you folks. I hope A.J. and his staff are able to pay Trey and the rest of these big names acts because he is slowly but surely running out of money . . .
Now, I am sounding like a negative nancy on my own friends and my own local festival . . .
